I've just been putting together my "top 10 albums of the decade", and this has taken it's rightful place at number 1. I remember on first listen when i had no idea what to expect, my initial reaction was "like listening to what brian wilsons smile might sound like if recorded in a 13th century monastery". Stunning album.
What can I say that hasn't already been said? I was recommended the album by a friend who lent it to me, I then bought it after falling in love with it. A superb mix of melody and folk, this really is a panacea for the soul. I would recommend splashing out and getting the 2 disc version though as it has the EP Sun Giant on it, containing the beautiful Mykonos. My only criticism of this album would have to be that because it is so good, it is destined to be used as incidental music on documentaries and; God forbid - adverts. I think I did hear it on Wimbledon too!
I dont buy many albums these days, but came across this one through "spotify". Its a brilliant album for people who really appreciate thoughtful, well crafted music. 18 tracks for a £5 ! Its the best album I have bought for a few years. The music is easy to the ear (cant believe the review below about the sound being bad) Its a brilliant sound. The more I listen to this album, the more I like it. In the unlikely event you dont like it, its only £5.
I can't describe how much i love this album! At first they all sound quite similar, but as you get to know the songs, each one is a complexity of melodic, emotional and otherworldly sounds. The voice is incredible! Also check out the song textbook love, it's not on the album-a very different more upbeat sound that fleet foxes my explore in the future- its's great. I also love mykonos! Best tracks here are; white winter hymynal, tiger mounatin peasant song, your protector and oliver james, although pretty much all of them are standouts! Bbuy buy buy!
A wonderful atmostphere on this record, lots of great harmonies and melodies. One of the only albums from the last couple of years I have heard (along with In Rainbows) which is actually worth something, that is significant and I will be listening to for years to come. Simply a great album. Folky might imply a stripped down sound but in many ways that is not true for this band's music.
