Considering that Donna Summer hasn't released a complete new album of original material in 17 years you might expect Donna Summer to reinvent herself as a ''covers artist'' on "Crayons." No way. This amazingly well put together set finds the ''empress of disco'' as her fans amusingly call her now , teaming with a crew of young collaborators€including Greg Kurstin, Danielle Brisebois, Ziggy Marley, J.R. Rotem and Lester Mendez€for a great collection of superb dance-pop, blues-rock, breezy Latin jazz and African-accented soul. Highlights include "I'm a Fire" (which recently topped the USA Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play chart) and "Stamp Your Feet," here Donna works it hard creating "... a big-ass sound" .
