PVD has crammed lots of tracks on this mix and wizzes through them too quickly.
There are 2 or 3 stand out tracks on each disc but as an overall mix this falls short of vintage PVD and is certainly not as good as the latest Tiesto CD.

Customer rating: 1 out of 5 stars Van Dyk gone off the boil?

This cd is utter crap! I can't believe this is the same DJ who was formerly world number one! It seems like he is trying new styles and it doesn't suit him one bit.

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars Brilliant mix by the master. The sound of Amnesia and PvD.

Firstly, don't let the negative review put you off. This is a stunning mix which showcases the broad spectrum of music that Paul van Dyk covers with style. Anyone who has been to a PvD set recently will feel at home here.

CD1 might surprise people who just associate PvD with 'trance' as it is more progressive (Deadmau5, Glenn Morrison, Inpetto style), deep, electro and techy electronic music covering house through to techno (Underground being a stand out track). It has quite an old-school, balearic feel to it in places but is cutting edge stuff and it builds brilliantly. Generally quite a deep CD but still has it's uplifting moments such as Gareth Wyn & The Viceroys homage to Turnmills - La Galeria. With influences from Misjah & Tim's classic Access, this is one of the highlights of CD1. Dero's i-Retro as well is brilliant because of the bonkers breakdown and dirty electro feel. Honestly, to describe this first part as 'abysmal' or 'repetitive' is ridiculous.

CD2 picks up nicely where the first left off and quickly gets going as the Paul van Dyk that most people will associate with: full-on, driving, energy filled melodic music that is much more in the trance category. This is my favourite of the two CDs and is mind-blowingly good from start to finish. Whilst all are excellent, the stand-out tunes for me are Paul Trainer's Totality and Giuseppe Ottaviani's two tracks which are superb and provide some of the more euphoric moments. Goosebump stuff.

This is a studio mix (as most are nowadays) made with Ableton Live - the same as PvD uses in his live sets - so the mixing is flawless as you'd expect. What sets it apart and demonstrates the skill and talent van Dyk as, is the track selection, programming, layering and harmonic mixing of tracks which is absolutely spot-on. A lot of tracks only play for a minute or two as they are used for snippets or bridges between other tunes.

CD1 took me a little while to get into initially but I now fully appreciate it and it complements the second perfectly. In fact listening to the two together, gives you much more of an idea of how a PvD set can develop. In summary - brilliant. Miles better than PvD's producer albums which I generally find a bit disappointing in places and this in a different league to the majority of mix CDs that make it to the mainstream. A great showcase of outstanding electronic music from an artist at the absolute top of their game. Wish I was going to Amnesia this year! Highly recommended.

I don't often write reviews but felt this deserved it due to the negative one on here which I think is way off the mark.

If you are like me and love trance then you will enjoy this cd,i've allways been a massive fan of pvd and he rarely dissapoints with his music allways at the top of his game when it comes to trance.cd 1 is rather mellow where as cd 2 is the more pumping trance, love it!!

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars Get this!

If you haven't bought this yet then why the hell not!

PvD at the top of his game. Disc 1 brings out a few surprises.

Disc 2 is trance and hard trance at its best.

BUY THIS!

Customer rating: 3 out of 5 stars CD one sucks, CD two is okay.

I managed to get my hands on an advanced copy of this and just finished listening to the whole thing through. First of all, don't let names such as "Cream" or "Paul Van Dyk" make you run out and buy this. CD one is abysmal, to be fair, a few tracks on CD one are okay, but most of it is repetitive and goes no-where.

Why did I give this three stars? Well, CD two is pretty good - notably "Elektra", "Follow Me" and "Burn it up". CD two mainly comprises of generic dark trance.

Despite there being a few good tunes on CD two, I wouldn't recommend this compilation - wait for the next uplifting trance compilation to come along...
