Don't compare it to welcome to my nightmare... Its impossible to compare anything to nightmare...
But this album is really cool, a concept, maybe a loose concept, but ultimately very good

Well you know the deal, its about a guy called spider (steven) thats killing people to make his own spider, well here's my view on the "storyline"

Tracks 1-6, basically about him and all his victims - simple

But track 7- killed by love, in my opinion, shows when it starts to go wrong, the 1st ballad in the album, shows how 'spider' has fallen in love with one of his victims! He cant possibly kill her!!!

Track 8 - "im hungry" the song showing that spider is weakening... He needs a meal... Soon...

Track 9- "the one that got away" - im not sure about this, either he has let his "love" go or he has attempted to get another victim, but failed, (i prefer 1st option :d)

Track 10 "salvation"- spider is realizing, is everything he is doing horribly wrong? Should he be… more »

All in all a good album, when you first get it, lock yourself in your room, lay on your bed and let alice take you away to the land of spider, listen to the whole album at once, and try and understand it
Ozzy osbourne helped co-write wake the dead, he also played harmonica in it, slash lends a hand with guitar on wake the dead and vengence is mine

All this is accompanied by an amazing booklet, the graphics are seriously intense...

This album actually is scary... Listen, and lose yourself in the songs, the confessions of spider

This all from a life long alice fan... Although my life has only been 14 years... He was the very first i saw in concert and the greatest shock-rocker of them all!

Comparisons to Welcome to my Nightmare will proliferate, and Along came a Spider will struggle and ultimately fail to get out from under its shadow. Not that this is a bad album, in fact it's very good, but it just doesn't have the majesty of Alice's '70s halcyon days.
It's like comparing the Bowie offerings from the nineties with his Ziggy, Hunky Dory, Diamond Dogs period. Although some are good they just don't measure up. What Cooper and Bowie share is that they both had a period where they keyed into the psyche of the pop world without selling out. For that alone they should be lauded, and although the glory days are past you can be assured that if you write them off completely now then it would be your loss.
Sometimes it's just a case of the artist and the public not meshing together at a particular time. What's hot and what's not is king, regardless of the quality of the material.
However, riding the crest of the pop wave is no real indicator of talent as this… more »

Simply put Alice Cooper is an exceptional artists who can always manage to pull something new out of the bag, and for this reason alone it's always worth keeping up to date with what he is doing.
Regardless of how this compares to WTMN it is still a well structured Alice Cooper album with his trademarked nasty persona running through it, and there's not much wrong with that.
It's actually rock solid entertainment for fans old and new. Some may hanker for the old days, but none will jump to cut the power in disgust. The magic is still there. It's just not to the fore this time out.
PS Everyone must see Alice Cooper live at least once in their lifetime. He is without doubt one of the best rock acts on the planet with a huge back catalogue to dip into to entertain the masses.
