What a return for The Verve, I love this album, its a massive, sprawling, epic, long album (in a good way)
Make sure u just whack this on loud and chill out to an amazing album, highlights include Apalacian Springs, Judas, Valium Skies and Columbo.

 Doesn't touch Urban Hymns !!!!!!!!!

I'm a huge Verve fan, but with most tracks this abum just doesn't excite ! There are a few outstanding tracks, but little continuity, and at times far too moody.
Didn't appreciate the Digipak either. Does anybody really like those things ?

 Excellent comeback

This album represents a big two fingers up to the naive fans who believe Urban Hymns to be The Verve's solitary album. Any person believing this album would be Urban Hymns Part II is in for a shock.

10 years down the line brings maturity, different influences and a change of soul. This is an album comparable to no other by The Verve; instead a leaf is taken from the previous 3 albums.

This is an album heavy instrumental wise, several bass-dominated tracks, sonic guitars, slick and smooth drumming with a mixture of vocals.

Standouts include - Columbo, Rather Be, Judas

If you're a big Verve fan then am sure you'll like it, as has been mentioned in a previous review it sounds different from there other albums.
Highlights on the album for me are "Love Is Noise", "Rather Be", "Valium Skies" & "Sit & Wonder".

A bit unfair to write off the Verve just yet.

This album isn't the best thing they've ever done and comes across to me as another Richard Ashcroft solo album with a few verve tracks for good measure. Their are a few stand out tracks but nothing like Urban Hymns or Norther Soul. Maybe if they stay together for longer this time they can knock out something better next time. Still worth a listen and to add to the collection.

 Very Decent

Urban Hymns had more than it's fair share of soft songs so slating this one for having a couple of inbetweeners is hardly fair. McCabes guitar work is incredible on this album and leans towards the psychedelic heights of their finest album 'A Northern Soul'. The Verve are famous for many of there songs being created as a result of very long and late jam sessions where most of their greatest work has derived from. 'Forth' has a similar feel, just slightly more polished. Real verve fans will appreciate the dynamics of this album; those who have heard radio friendly songs such as 'bitter sweet symphony', 'the drugs don't work' and 'love is noise' and rushed out to buy it probably wont 'get it'. But these people shouldn't be buying verve albums anyway.

 such a let down

Was looking forward to this album but what a let down. The first two songs are great then it turns into this slow boring sound of guitars, nothing there in any of the other songs. Ive listened to it the once and that will be the first and last time.

 Didn't live it up..

Must admit, when i heard of a verve comeback this album was right into my most wanted before it was officially announced.

I got my hands on a copy of it a week or two back and being honest it wasn't all i was expecting. Love is noise is a great song and right now none of the others are really standing out to me. I'll give it time for the time being it doesn't come close to Urban Hymns.

Weak, only 2 or 3 good tunes

This album comes across more as a Richard Ashcroft album than a much anticipated Verve one. Its all strings & vocal washes. Nick McCabe's lead work has all but disappeared. Its very disappointing, nowhere even approaching the feel of 'A storm in Heaven' or the greatness of 'Urban Hymns'. The b-sides back then were fantastic, however most of the album tracks here wouldn't even make a b-side of theirs in the past. The Verve, good live no doubt, but ultimately living off their past successes. Avoid
