I have always thought eels (moreso E himself) were a musical metaphor for life in General. Starting with the angry teenage attitude of "Beautiful Freak", to the more sobering, understanding of some of the harshness of lifes realities with "Electro-Shock Blues". Once over these things, and with a spring in step, offers a parallel to "Daisies Of The Galaxy", where in "Souljacker", it allows us to be more vocal about the things in life because we understand them more. "Shootenanny", while going under the radar as a release, will stand as an ode to the simplistic, which we all crave at a certain times in our lives.

And so it leads us to "Blinking Lights". The Metamorphosis that I always think of is also backed by frontman E at live shows, deep beard and enjoying a cigar, and now using a walking stick. Blinking Lights feels like E looks onstage...benefitting from being wiser and smarter and conforming to no standards. The music is at times joyful, other times reflective, other times… more »
