The Eels have always been a bit hit and miss for me. Sometimes it feels like the finger slips off the quality control button at times. Not on this however.
On a double disc that has 33 tracks we could expect some slacking, some tracks that would fail to leave a mark, but we would be wrong. Over all E is as introspective as ever, but as a body of work this has a pretty much universal appeal. Slip it on and it's as if he has taken you by that hand and guided you through the highs and lows of his life without any apparent thread to it. We find ourselves voyeuristically taking a front row seat to partake in virtually all his experiences, but flit from one to another as if channel surfing. I'm impressed and I'd presume that I wouldn't be the only one with this.
Absolute quality

This album is just amazing. THIS ALBUM IS JUST AMAZING. I've said it twice just to hammer home the fact... 33 tracks of musical perfection (including the 3 or 4 instrumental meanderings of mr E). My favourite track changes every time I listen to it, which is often. The Eels other albums are good. Very good in fact. But this collection just blows away everything else they've (he's) done. My advice? Buy it. But it now. Stop reading, start buying. I guarantee you won't regret it.
