City Of Evil

Really strong pop-metal album. I didn't think I'd like this band at all but the songs they've crafted here are fantastic. Their style is somewhere in between classic/power metal, hard rock, modern rock like Foo Fighters, and melodic metalcore. It is a winning formula commercially, but it's not just weak pop fodder. The songs are really well-constructed, very powerful, very catchy. Musicianship and production is excellent and the album flows nicely, it's a tad long but every track is a classic (favourites being Beast & The Harlot, Bat Country, Seize the Day and Betrayed).

If you like mainstream rock/metal then definitely give this a shot, I doubt you'd regret it.

In my opinion this is A7X's best album!
There are songs to pick you up and get you going again and some to relax to with outstanding drum beats and awesome riffs throughout. Awesome talent, just sorry that the 'Rev' isn't here with us anymore. R.I.P. brother.

Admittedly I wasn`t a huge A7X fan many yrs bk as my ex tried to drum their self titled album in2 my head lol however I started giving it a listen a couple of years back and become hooked so I brought City of Evil. Ever since the 1st listen I became addicted! The album is an amazing piece of art from some very talented people, down 2 Shadows voice/lyrics, the revs drumming/lyrics and gates` awesome guitar skills! I do understand however that it can be seen as going on for 2 long and sound like 1 big track and sometimes his voice grinds on you a bit lol but that will never take away how awesome these guys are! The album gets me excited and speaks to me. Fav songs are trashed and scattered (reminds me of a lame ex boyfriend recently lol) and M.I.A (beautiful song) defo their most powerful album :D

Quite a downer after Waking The Fallen,
Such a promising opening, Beast And The Harlot being the most metal track on the album, but, after the first six tracks, the songs begin to drag on for six or seven minutes at a time and they lose their power and pick up more of a ballad sound.
A brave move from the band that divided their fans... Luckily, they could never, ever get rid of the true fans, no matter what!

This album is amazing. Some songs are very hard rock, other are nice power ballad types (MIA, Strength Of The World). Absolutely amazing though, but quite expensive for an online shop.

There isn't really much to say about this particular album. I could go into a long winded description using a range of colourful adjectives and sentences. But what would be the use? For no words can describe the sheer brilliance of the songs that reside in this piece of plastic. I'll be the first person to admit that not all of the songs are stunning, in fact one or two are even a bit dodgy, but there are at least 8 tracks that could have only come from the Gods here. These are songs that will be topping the 25 most played on your I-tunes with over a hundred plays and which you will constantly have in your mind. I can only guess at what makes them so good, but it could be the excellence of the guitar solos, the fantastic drumming or just the riffs, I don't know. But I do know that any self respecting metal/rock fan simply must hear this masterpiece.

Love every song on this album, its such a good contrast between heavier songs like beast and the harlot, and then softer songs, like seize the day. amazing drums, addictive riffs, and genius bass lines...jolly good show

I have to admit, i got into Avenged Sevenfold after playing Beast and the Harlot on Guitar Hero II, but now i love them beyond belief, and i love City of Evil. From the moment the first notes of BatH ring out, you know that the album is going to be big. It has to feature some of the best, catchiest and technical guitar pieces in all albums, some of the best songs, from the speed and brilliance of Burn It Down to the melodic, 'November Rain-esc' Seize the Day, this album has to be one of the most stunning executions of skill in recent years.
