Play.com Review

Removing herself from the midst of controversy and tabloid tales, pop princess Britney Spears returns with her sixth studio album, Circus. Walking a tight-rope over recent times, Britney Spears is back to let her music speak for itself with an irresistibly up-tempo and catchy pop album.

Moving past the personal drama that lent itself lyrically to the majority of her last album release, the synth-laden Blackout, Britney Spears is back in confident form with a selection of pop rock confections. Opening with the staccato-beat filled hit single 'Womanizer' Circus shows a bright and refreshing side to the newly reformed Britney Spears as she revisits and reworks some of her most celebrated styles and sounds. While 'Piece Of Me' producers Bloodshy & Avant bring to life the melodic 'Unusual You', Max Martin who wrote and produced her 1998 breakthrough hit '...Baby One More Time', demonstrates his perfect pop arrangements on the saucy stomper 'If You Seek Amy'. Touching on R&B stylistics on the sleek 'Lace And Leather' and 'Kill The Lights', Britney Spears shows that she is capable of adapting her voice as she launches from the slow-rocking 'Blur' into the funky 'Mmm Papi'. The acoustic guitar led 'Out From Under' is a tingling power ballad that resembles her 2001 hit 'I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman' and sees Britney Spears hitting thunderous high notes with delicate precision. As the album draws to a close, 'My Baby', reminiscent of her debut album track 'Born To Make You Happy', is a colossal heart-wrenching ballad that marks a mature step for Britney Spears both lyrically and vocally.

Despite difficult bouts in her personal life, Britney Spears shows with Circus that she has grown as an artist. By working with a selection of producers that she has previously worked with and is introducing for the first time with this album, Britney Spears has been able to build on her own reputable techniques to add futuristic flourishes that will appeal to both her established fans and new-found Britney Spears listeners alike.

Circus is also available in a CD & DVD Edition.

It's been downhill since 'Baby One More Time' and this album continues the Britney trend of fewer decent tunes with each release. This one is supposedly more adult; but in reality that means there's more heavy breathing and thinly veiled references to bodily parts.

Circus is the album of 2008!

Britney Spears may have had a roller-coaster of a career and a turmoil personal life that has gained media attention over the past 4 years.
But now she is getting the attention she finally deserves, Blackout had started a semi return but due to lack of publicity it has been eclipsed by this giant album of 2008.
Circus combines a fine combination of ballad, rock, pop, and a retro style to make it fun, catchy and inspiring...everyday i come home from college and put this in my CD player...it makes you feel great eternally.
Maichael Jackson did it with Thriller, Madonna did it with Like A Prayer and Ray of Light now its Britney's turn...Circus never dissappoints.
WOMANIZER is her greatest lead single ever and really shows off what circus has in store for fans (song of the year), CIRCUS is a great follow up single that is equally as dark broody and catchy with frantic pacing, OUT FROM UNDER needs to be the third single due to mega popularity from fans and it being the most beautiful ballad since Everytime.
KILL THE LIGHTS is the superior sequel to Piece Of Me, while BLUR/SHATTERED GLASS/MMM PAPI 'nd LACE & LEATHER boast high octane production values.
IF U SEEK AMY is now a cult Britney track due to its expletive nature yet it has a dance and funky vibe that will get you dancing, her most clever and notorious track to date!.
RADAR gets a frantic new remix but this time Britney shows off her vocals rather than Dependant on the pulsating beat background...easily making a single possibility and a more amazing track.
but for me MANNEQUIN is one of the best tracks she has ever created and demands a single release with the vibe of MJ's THRILLER...it frantic and fantastic.
MY BABY is Brit's most personal track and it very, very charming.
AMNESIA closes the album to high high and mighty effect.
all in all this album is the perfect album of the year that beats Rihanna's, Madonna's, Kylie's and even Cyndi Lauper's recent efforts this year by miles.
Circus is amazing...although the deluxe edition is the one to get for major fans like me with the bonus tracks ROCK ME IN and PHONOGRAPHY which are both catchy and sleek...plus a DVD and a poster...Circus is a must have album...the queen is definately back with the best album of her career.

After the critical success of Blackout, I really wished Britney had stuck to the dancier productions as it was IMO her best album. However, with Circus returning to a more pop orientated formula, the album doesnt fall too far short from the quality of Blackout. Productions sill from Danja and Bloodshy and Advant make the album, also with tracks like Womanizer and If You Seek Amy, Kill the Lights and Unusual You help keep the standard of the album on parr with Blackout.

There is some filler ie, Lace and Leather and My Baby, But the Delux Edition cancells this out with amaizing bonus tracks like Phonography and Amnesia.

 The circus is in town!

Possibly the best Britter's album in a long time. It gets off to a good start, with the catchy Womanizer, but then just gets better and better. New fans will love it, and old fans will not be disappointed.
