I just thought I'd go against the tidal wave of positive reviews on this site, and say that this version of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah' is nothing but soulless fluff.
'Hallelujah' is a song full of such beautiful imagery. It's a song that expresses love, loss and doubt like few others can. It's a song that should challenge and expose the singer.
What Simon Cowell has done, is to turn a beautiful work of art into a lifeless, soulless, (oh, but guaranteed money-making!) product. It's merely a shell. There should be life in there, but instead there's simply a lot of cash stuffed in there.
Do the decent thing and order Jeff Buckley's version. If you can't get the single it's on his 'Grace' album. Or get Cohen's original. Or John Cale's. Anything but this.
