After the brilliance of October Road, James Taylor shows a return to form with Covers. At first glance the titles may seem a motley crew of choices - but a close listen will dispel any reservations you may have. If anything, the assembled songs simply confirm James Taylor's ultimate skill in turning somebody else's song into something entirely his own. Let's face it: anyone who can take Oh What A Beautiful Morning and make it into a smooth, easy ballad oozing laid-back charm simply has to have class! Highlights for me include Wichita Lineman and Seminole Wind, whilst Some Days You Gotta Dance and Knock on Wood will have you up and dancing - whether you like it or not! This may not have the immediate appeal or originality of October Road, but it's more than worth a listen. Great to see Mr T singing as sweet as ever!
