Sequel to 1981's classic "Discipline" album, "Beat" saw the same line up of Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew, Bill Bruford and Tony Levin address the mythology of Kerouac, Cassidy and Ginsberg in what turns out to be the closest thing Crimson have ever done to a concept album.

The eclectic guitar styles, Chapman Stick, Roland guitar synth and Simmons drums are still present and provide a familiar tonal range that's surprisingly fresh even today. But with the final track "requiem" there's a foreshadowing of the more industrial approach that they would adopt in the third album of this set, "Three of a Perfect Pair."
