  • Some say strike while the iron is hot. What with it being 10 months since her X Factor victory, the imminent release of Overcome would suggest that Alexandra Burke disagrees. Since winning the fifth series of X Factor in December of 2008, the 21-year old has taken time out to mature and put a bit of polish on her sound. The rewards of that patience run right through her debut album. Rather than just dishing out 12 ever-so-slightly different versions of hit single 'Hallelujah', Burke has worked hard at mixing up her sound to create a dynamic and varied album. With three-pronged competition coming from mentor Cheryl Cole's solo debut, 3 Words, X Factor runner-ups JLS' eponymous debut album, and Leona Lewis' follow-up to Spirit, Echo, there are challenges to face.

As soon as the groove of R&B/ hip-hop concoction 'Bad Boys' hits your eardrums, it's clear that the young Londoner has used her time away well. 'Bad Boys' effervescent introduction gives way to the pop of 'Goodnight, Good Morning', the epic ballad 'Silence', and future club classic 'All Night Long'. Over the next 8 tracks, Burke takes on soul, pop, dance, Motown and ballads with ease, leaving us in no doubt that she is no pop-clone, but an artist with real range. Production-wise, Alexandra has recruited some of pop's biggest hit-makers to create Overcome. Stargate - responsible for Ne-Yo's 'Closer' and Rihanna's 'Don't Stop the Music' - put their distinctive imprint on second track 'Goodnight, Good Morning' while RedOne (producer of Lady Gaga's 'Poker Face') had a hand in 3 of the tracks.

X Factor winners have become renowned for falling by the wayside once the initial momentum of their victory has ebbed away. Burke has taken note of this, and Overcome suggests that she sees that win as the beginning of a long and fruitful career. Get in on the ground floor.

Such an AMAZING and MATURE debut album

This album has some amazing tracks on it... Only three ballads. The rest are all up tempo, funky tunes.

Broken heels is very uptempo and "female powered"... Anything guys can do, girls can do better, and they can do it in broken heels.

The silence is the best ballad in my opinion. Sooooo moving and the words can mean something to anyone who has had a difficult relationship. Wow.

Goodnight goodmorning is a duet, and an amazing one at that... Only 20 days until you find out with whoooo! Wowza!

All night long is the perfect song to get ready for a night out... Its catchy and upbeat.

Bad boys is the perfect lead single from the album... It sets alex's standards high, but there is better to come.

This album deserves to be huge!

Alexandra Burke - Overcome = Amazing.

I wasn't sure what to make of Alexandra's new album I believed it would be mostly madeup of ballads such as Leona Lewis's. However her new single was amazing and nothing of the sort so I thought i'd give her album a try. It's a mix of up-tempo and slower songs. All of which are of a high standard. I would reccomend this album highly as all of her songs have a very different and fresh feeling to them. One of the best albums of the year so far.

I think this album is very catchy and has a combination of music styles such as R'n'b, 60's, rock and ballad. My favourite tracks from this album are bad boys, the silence, you broke my heart, gotta go, six feet under and the Christmas single.

I would recommend to any one!!
