Play.com Review

Turn everything up to 11, because the dark lords of Rock'n'Roll are Back From The Dead! 25 years after the seminal film Spinal Tap thrust the band into the limelight, the mock-rockers return with a new album and a 'One-night-only World Tour'.

Back From The Dead is a mix of re-interpreted songs - the new '(Funky) Sex Farm' is a hilarious abomination - with straight up versions of the original classics from the brilliant Break Like The Wind, and new tracks like 'Heavy Duty' and 'Short And Sweet'. The love for the band from the bastions of rock and metal is clearly on display, with luminaries such as Keith Emerson, Steve Vai, Phil Collen and John Mayer all lending their talents to new tracks.

The deluxe album features fold-out gatefold packaging, forming the band on the notorious 'Stonehenge' stage, and a 60-minute DVD of the band's typically insightful commentary for a track-by-track trip through the album. It's not the new Spinal Tap movie fans have been hoping for, but it's not too far off. With the band still hilarious after all these years, Back From The Dead will have Tap fans in hog heaven!

This album really is great. It has all of the old classics from the film (although some have been reworked) plus some new tracks which still match the quality of the older songs.
In addition to the CD there is an hour long DVD which is pretty funny. Its great to see that they can still improvise as well as they used to!
The best thing about this album is the packaging. It is the most ridiculously indulgent album design I have ever seen and I love it! Who else would release an album that folded out into a 12" diorama that takes about 20 minutes to figure out!?!
Great design, great songs and altogether a great album!!!

Awesome. Still must own if you have their other cd's!

This is a must own if you are a fan of the band and obviously the film. The cd encompasses 19 tracks, 13 of which can be found on the other 2 albums (mainly the soundtrack to the film), but ALL these songs are re-recorded and add a different fresh exciting sound to them. It also comes with the dvd which is great, next best thing to another film I guess. The only thing that slightly is annoying is the packaging. If you don't want to fold it out and have it on display then the packaging is annoying as their is so many large fold out flaps and things which look like they won't wear to well. But I'm not baseing this review on that, as that is subjectable and well takes nothing away from the awesome music. I guess in a weird way the packaging sort of fits the comedy and the joke of the band. All in all 5* Stars, a must for Spinal Tap fans and even just Rock/Metal fans in general!

I can't wait for this album!

I love the film & love the songs, especially 'big bottom' so to finally own a copy is my idea of heaven! The added dvd of all new tap material has got to be hilarious, they're comedy gods!

5 * All the way!

Spinal Tap - Back from the dead

Back from the dead at last! but not a album with many tracks you will want to play turned up to 11!........ well I am a huge spinal tap fan and I was so pleased to see this cd hit the market. Superb sleeve a real work of art - some great tracks but some awful ones too!, the rocky side seems to be limited to a few numbers with most being slow and far from what a rock band would put out - this said I know this is a pi** take album so we must embrace it in the from and humour its presented to us in. A fun and silly album with a few great track and of course a must buy for any tap fan but not one I fear you will be playing that many times! - Do make sure you have the other older tap albums as these are essential purchases! .
