  • French film maker Jessy Nottola spent six weeks in the Saharan village of Tessalit patiently shadowing Tinariwen as they set about recording their new album 'Imidiwan'. Even though Jessy is a veteran of film-making in Africa, having made a series of shorts on the great African reggae star Tiken Jah Fakoly, this wasn't an easy assignment. Without a team or any technical assistance, Jessy had to get to grips with desert conditions and the slow-baked pace of life in this remote corner of Africa. But patience, hard work and a keen sensitivity to the multiple layers of subtle significance and meaning that any outsider needs to get to grips with when they encounter desert society...it all finally paid off. Jessy's 30 minute film is one of the best audiovisual documents of Tinariwen at home in the desert ever made, and offers a lyrical insight into their outlook, philosophy and working methods.
