once again Noah and the whale prove their undoubted talent.I seem to enjoy it the more i play it. Both their albums are outstanding .Once again the arrangements show clever sophisication, lyrical very real and honest. love the album .Noah and the whale are my favourite band

Wonderfully melanchonic with a few pop gems inbetween

The eponymous opening track of First Days has a searing violin rift that sends tingles up your spine. heard live it is truly phenomanal. The album apparently charts the break up of Charlie Fink from other Nu-Folk darling Laura Marling and at time is weighed down by this sombre tone. But this also gives the album a weight that Gently the World Lays Me Down and Last Night on Earth simply dont have. It means that you have to listen to the album a few times to truly appreciate the arrangements but then it just clicks and if you are anything like me it will be on repeat over and over again. In case that all sounds a bit heavy listen to Love of an Orchestra where the sheer fun of their earlier work burst through and you find yourself full volume singing along in joy One of my absolute favourite albums of the last 5 years.
