I have to dissagree with the previous reviewers. This is nothing like the previous 2 Editors albums and it's nowhere near as good. It sounds like the guitar player has found a synth knocking about the studio and decided to knock up an album in a week. They seemed to be so obsessed with their new synth direction that they've forgotten to put some vocal melodies into some of the tunes. Papillon is probably the best tune on there and that sounds like a rip off of Sweet Dreams by Eurithmics. I say if you want to use synths guys, incorporate them with guitars. It doesn't suit you this way.
i personally think this album is great but does slow down and loose some of its steam towards the end....first 4 tracks are the perfect intro to the album, bricks and mortar is probably my favourite track (which sounds similar to the terminator soundtrack as someone said) followed by the boxer and of course papillon is going to be another big editors hit its very infectious...i kind of miss the thrashing of the guitars of previous editors records but if your a fan then this is a must have :)
If you're a fan of the Editor's first two albums you're going to be bitterly disappointed.
They've gone way too techno and completely lost their stylish, catchy, upbeat guitar based songs!
On neutral grounds the album isn't too bad hence the three stars but if I were going on previous records this is their worst by far.
Papillon and You Don't Know Love are the two best songs on the album but the rest are just all a bit melodramatic and too techno based.
If you've never heard of the Editors before I suggest you check out their two previous albums...
Overall 'In This Light And On This Evening' is creditable but lacking that Editor charm.
Bring back the guitars for the 4th one lads!
Being a fan of The Editors i awaited their new release with anticipation - disappointed or what - where has all the guitar work gone - replaced with synthesisers - not a patch on previous albums - down load papilon - avoid the album !!
Took a while to grow on me but I love it the more I listen to it :)
