I have to disagree with the previous reviews. This is by far the best album John has done with Sony. The best thing since Swings Cole Porter. The vocals are superb. He really excels at musical theatre. I can easily listen to all the tracks on this album over and over again, whereas on Another Side and Music Music Music, there were tracks that I skipped after the first play. He's as gone back to his roots, and it shows. If you love musical theatre, this is one album you should definitely buy.
I have to agree with the previous review, John you've made better cd's than this Another Side was a really good cd.
John Barrowman is a very visual artist (like Shirley Bassey) and they come across better on a live concert or dvd than on cd, however I think it's time someone started writing songs for John and he recorded fewer covers.
If you want a really good recording of John's buy his dvd - it's brilliant!
... I'm one of your biggest fans and have bought your previous two albums which were fantastic. But there's nothing new on here that hasn't been heard before and been done better. The songs are not uplifting but fairly downbeat which doesn't give you a good feeling when listening to them. OK - mediocre is a bit strong but not too far off the mark. I would have expected, after two mainly cover albums, that it's time to unleash the John we all know with something more dynamic and totally fresh that we haven't heard before. So where is it John...?
This is the best one yet! John sounds like an angel could not wait to buy this and so glad i did. Have not swicthed it off since i have. Keep them coming like this one it will take you to heaven and back in the blink of an eye.
Personally I love this album, and I think it's one of the best so far. I actually personally love covers, and I think he's done tremondously well on this album, especially "Oh What a Night". Well done, keep them coming J!
