One of the most enigmatic albums of our time, and universally viewed as the record that 'burst the britpop bubble'.

The much publicised drug taking, internal feuding and clash of egos (liam and noel were hardly talking whilst this was being recorded) have become more memorable than the actual album, from a historical perspective anyway. The songs are long, owen morris allowed far too much autonomy in the studio, which resulted in an album that was extremely unedited.

However, when you strip it down, remove the pr gloss and discount noel gallaghers put downs regarding this record, what you're left with is a record with some really good songs on. 'D'ya know what i mean' is a cracking song, and 'stand by me' is a worthy single. Dont go away and the girl in the dirty shirt are pleasent enough tunes. The album is accessible and offers a good mix of slow ballads and faster songs.

Once all the dust has cleared however, this remains a good album with some good songs on. It could do with an edit, but aside from that it is not leftfield. It offers a good mix of rock songs and is easily accessible.
