Sky (CD version).
Despite the inclusion of John Williams in the line-up, when sky were looking for a record deal in 1978, it proved hard to find. When it was released in the spring of 1979, however, their debut album reached number 2 in the charts. An adventurous fusion of rock and classical music, this album sounds as fresh today as it did all those years ago. The combination of classical and electric guitars, synthesisers and harpsichord bring a depth to the music that cannot be denied. Carillon is a simple but beautiful tone poem, whilst Cannonball is a synth-driven musical explosion. Westway throbs with imagined commuter traffic and Where Opposites Meet is an 18-minute epic that encapsulates every element that makes up this unique band. A brilliant first album that does not disappoint.
