This is like a combination of Zero 7, Morcheeba and Air all rolled into one. A really relaxing album, perfect for first thing in the morning or relaxing outside on a sunny day. If you like the bands above you will not be disappointed.
outstanding

Listening to Seventh Tree is like basking in warm sunshine on a spring morning. Simply superb.

Effortless is the word i would use to describe this album, and I shall try to justify why as I write this review.
I never used to listen to Goldfrapp much, I mean, of course, I liked Ooh La La, and Number 1, but ask me any of their other song titles, and I would have been lost. So, you know the story, someone sends you a link on youtube, you give it a listen, and normally just straight disagree with what your friend thinks 'just to be awkward'. But no! What's this, A & E, a song I like, damn my friend and his taste. So, on a spur, I download an album, going on one song (not something I had done since I downloaded News & Tributes by Futureheads, not something that encouraged me to do it more often).
And in truth, this is a great album. Well, to a point. If it was a classic, you would be seeing five stars, no doubt, and with a few changes, only a few, it may have been so. To find negatives in this album, is to try to find reasons you don't love one type of ice cream over another flavour you do love. This album has so much to it, but it falls short with maybe lacking some sort of development in certain songs. Although some songs do progress well, some leave you feeling that if you had just done a bit of editing on that track, it could be your favourite track ever.
But, really, it is hard to explain just why this album will never be your favourite album ever. Effortless is this album. It flows, effortlessly, it sounds as if it was written effortlessly, and it just works. It is like listening to a Saturday afternoon in your garden with the sun in your face as you close your eyes and remain awake, just remembering previous summers in the sun. It is beautiful, and well worth a listen. This CD could easily be one that is stuck in your player from now until November, no lie. And what else would take it's place? At the moment, not much. It is a great album, released with perfect timing, just before summer hits us all.
This will relax, and entertain you. I cannot reccomend it enough, it could easily be an album to remind you of a time you want to remember, or something along those lines =P Just get it, there is something for everyone here, who likes, oh I don't know, lazy Sundays. To test if you like it, I would reccomend trying to listen to Clowns, Road to Somewhere, A & E, and if you are feeling brave, Eat Yourself.
Enjoy!

Goldfrapp unplugged this could also be called - well at least if you compare it to Black Cherry and Supernature. This definitely a tamer affair than the previously mentioned albums but don't let that put you off. The musicality is brilliant, Alison's vocals are superb and they haven't left the pomp behind. Top tracks include A&E, Little Bird, Happiness; Cologne Cerrone Houdini and Caravan Girl. This is not Felt Mountain Pt 2 and should not be directly compared to it. This album has a feeling of plenty of space in the sound letting you go wherever you want to whilst listening and not drowning your thoughts.

I have to admit i expected them to ventually go back to the Felt Mountain Sound and it doe's take a complete U Turn to Supernature and is toned down a hell of alot. So it doe's take some listening but don't right it off straight away it has some lovely Songs on it.
And im glad goldfrapp have not got sucked into being commercialised like other bands they do what they want and try something different everytime they produce a new album.
Lets just say it's a breath off fresh air.
best outing since Felt Mountain

I love this album. I love all the albums by Goldfrapp, though have to admit Felt Mountain is my favourite album of theirs.
Seventh Tree has a much more mellow approach and is cinematic in style. It has less electronica and a more acoustic vibe - yet with Alison's fantastic vocals and elaborate soundscapes. Whilst at the same time, sounding more Goldfrapp than ever. How cool is that?
Seventh Tree is their most down-tempo album since Felt Mountain. And it works brilliantly. There were many opinions of Goldfrapp that they had become more of a circus act than a music outfit. Their fourth album is more subtance than style whilst still sounding like a great band.

First of all please ignore LadyFerry's ignorant review. Sure people have got a right to say their piece but the review was cruelly unjustified.
I wish people would stop comparing it to Felt Mountain, this record is much more organic, warmer, chilled and relaxed - bit like a sunny Sunday afternoon. And regarding Supernature, i have never thought of Goldfrapp as a 'dance' band, that album was uplifting and fun - they have the magic touch to go in whatever direction they feel like going.
Alison and Will are not individuals just in it to get number one hits, what rubbish. It's obvious they make music that they enjoy for themselves, and the majority of their work i find is not commercial or radio friendly.
This album is a joy from start to finish. Alison sings like an angel and she has never sounded better. Fans of Liz, Kirsty, Kate, Beth, Tori et all will not be disappointed, Clowns in particular is a triumph.
Guys keep up the amazing work you do, i am always intrigued with what you do next and i am constantly blown away by the high quality and input you produce :)
More enchanted forest than felt mountain

One thing you can say about Goldfrapp albums is that they rarely repeat themselves, even if many of us would want them to. Whilst Felt Mountain is possibly my favourite album of all time, the experimental but more chart friendly direction of Black Cherry and Supernature came as something of a disappointment. I loved perhaps 40% of each, compared to Felt Mountain's 90%.
It is a relief then, that Seventh Tree scores somewhere in between. It isn't, as many hoped, a full-blown return to the blissful peaks of Felt Mountain. It's more a visit to its forest outskirts. Tracks like A&E, Clowns and Return to Somewhere are among my favourites, and the sublime Cologne Cerrone Houdini seems to come straight from Felt Mountain. Its just exquisite.
Alison Goldfrapp's vocals are, as usual, hauntingly beautiful (she's gorgeous too, which doesn't hurt). The music also has, as many have said, an earthy, folky edge. Give it a few listens and Seventh Tree proves as accomplished as anything they've done previously. For me however, Felt Mountain remains unsurpassed.
Fantastic Down Tempo Album

I became obsessed with Goldfrapp after buying Supernature and although Seventh Tree is completely different to Supernature, it is without a doubt the best album in the charts at the moment!
After Supernature, i waited for Goldfrapp's return expecting some good old disco/electropop, but good artists always find new ways to reinvent themselves and keep the critics on their toes, and Goldfrapp have done exactly that!
Dragged in by the beautifully depressing "A & E" i knew i had to get this album.
Opening with the cooky, and rather strange "Clowns" which seems to be a knock at plastic surgery and phony pop stars, Seventh Tree is very slow and organic, Alison's vocals work beautifully on all tracks and there are some rather upbeat tunes too, including my favourite "Caravan Girl" and "Happiness"
This album is taking the charts by storm and is definitely worth a buy! (according to iTunes i have played A & E, 171 times! ... and i'm STILL not tired of it!)
Hope this review was helpful!
peace
