This album is a slow grower ......2+2 and There There are instantly catchy tunes that stick in your head straight away. The overall quality of the album would have been improved if some of the weaker tracks had not been included ie. The Gloaming, We Suck Young Blood and Backdrifts. Still a worthy addition to anyone's Radiohead collection though!!!

Although this album is a little inconsistent in places, it is definitely a really solid Radiohead album, and a return to the guitar driven tracks which is what they should mainly be about (but I do quite like Kid A and Amnesiac).

Some of the best tracks on here include "2+2=5" "There There" "Myxomatosis" "Sit Down Stand Up" "Scatterbrain" but the absolute best track is "Go To Sleep" which for me has got to rank as one of Radiohead's greatest songs with its powerful build up to the funky mid-section.

But there are some lesser songs here too "Punch up at a wedding" " We Suck Young Blood" and "The Gloaming" are all pretty dreary and plod on at such a drab pace you don't really care to listen to them.

But besides that it might not be there all time best album but its definitely worth a listen

After the acclaim aimed at 'In Rainbows' it would be easy to dismiss 'Hail...' as just another evolutionary step in Radiohead 'rediscovering their form'.

While 'In Rainbows' recalls 'OK Computer', it is something of a hotchpotch, albeit with moments of brilliance. 'Hail...' on the other hand is a more complete album, and one that is comfortable in its desolate, synthesized soundscape. Tracks such as 'Sit Down, Stand up', and the glorious 'Where I end and You begin' are some of the finest in Radiohead's history, and with the Yorke vocal-led ballads 'Sail to the moon', and 'I Will', the album achieves a real balance between the electronic and their customary melancholy sound.

If 'Kid A' could be seen as an oddity for fans only, and 'In Rainbows' a move back to their roots, 'Hail...' stands out as a superb album in its own right, perhaps for the first time since 'OK Computer'.

This review refers to Hail To The Thief (CD version).

While this record has lost points to it's filler content (14 tracks is too much for any album) you simply cannot deny the sheer genius of it's highlights such as 2+2, Sail To The Moon and Go To Sleep.

It seems Radiohead have reclaimed forgotten ground on which to use their respective string instruments after the two previous landscaped and alienated long players that were Kid A and Amnesiac (both brilliant albums in their own right).

And it is with some discomfort that I am forced to award a Radiohead album with anything less than 5 out of 5 but it just goes to show that less is more. Had Radiohead dropped the four bad tracks on this record and opted for an album of 10 quality tracks they would of had yet another masterpiece to add to their already amazing discography.

An awesome album, with many new classics adding to the Radiohead library of hits. Combining guitar with the recent efforts of Kid A and Amnesiac, this is a great addition to the backcatalogue. However, as a hardended radiohead fan, it pains me to say that this is the first radiohead album that has very apparent "Filler" material, and the "Gloaming" and "We Suck Young Blood" are two of the band's poorest songs they've ever made, but are fortunately sandwiched between "Where I end and you begin" and "There There", both of which are superb.

Aside from this, this is a good sturdy album that you'll be playing for many weeks to come should you buy it.

Customer rating: 3 out of 5 stars Good but not great.

After the monster that was Paranoid Android and Bends, you expect perfection, this is good but no master piece!
