It's difficult to recall any album in recent history that split opinion as much as Kid A did upon its release in 2000. Personally, as soon as I heard the opening electronic piano bars of Everything In Its Right Place I knew I was going to like it and to this day I do not understand why so many people were flummoxed by it. Everything..., The National Anthem, How To Disappear Completely, Optimistic and Idioteque were, on the first listen alone, instantly recognisable as classic Radiohead to my ears and remain so.
OK, it was certainly a voyage to the leftfield but I remember hearing similar whinges about OK Computer in 1997 because so many people wanted The Bends II. The point is, Radiohead have never stayed in one place and that is what keeps them so vital. If you want Xeroxed, watered down retreads of Radiohead's more accessible works, there are plenty of bands out there catering for you. And you are welcome to them.

One point though: £7.95 for the download but £5.99 for the CD? What kind of nonsense is this? Why would anyone choose the MP3 over the actual disc if it costs more??
