This review refers to The '59 Sound (CD version).

Every song on this album is powerful and commanding and reminiscent of Bruce Springsteen. This album pretty much defines the genre originally set up by Springsteen, with catchy hooks and meaningful lyrics aplenty. The musicianship is so genuine and brilliant that there's not much you can really fault them for, except for the fact the songs seem to diffuse into one another due to their similarity, but that merely shows how cohesive the album is as a whole.

Customer rating: 4 out of 5 stars Very good! The Boss would be proud (or ticked off?)

This album is great as the previous reviews said, and I saw them at Leeds Festival and can confirm that they also rock live! Its a bit more popier than their other album (Sink or Swim - which I find has gruffer vocals).

A word of warning though, the front man has obviously modeled himself on Bruce Springsteen (which is ok seeing as he is a fellow new Jersey man and is a fantastic musical role model) - but he does it to such an extent that it can be cringe worthey and a bit of a cliché, espaecially live (the way he moves and tells tall stories in between songs etc)...if you can get past this however you will love this band, the vivid lyrics and great sing-a-longs!

Basically a punk version of Bruce Springsteen's less Jazzy stuff.

p.s. The Boss rules I.D.S.T.

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars Punk with soul

To echo the reviewer below me, this album is fantastic - The soundtrack to the summer.
The gaslight anthem are reminiscent of great fun punk like bad religion fused with brilliant anthemic music to drive to like Bruce Springsteen. The result is a heartfelt, accessible, and highly enjoyable album.
This album is just made for being left on repeat in your cd player all summer long, and is definitely worth a purchase.
