I've had about 3 listens to this album so far and it's really one that grows on you, the more you listen the more you like it. Sit And Wonder is probably the highlight of this record along with Love Is Noise and Valium Skies, the latter being classic Verve and would sit nicely on Urban Hymns. Other highlights include Judas, Noise Epic, Columbo and album closer Appalachian Springs. Numbness is on the poor side though and is pretty much filler in my opinion. The other two tracks although not bad songs, those being Rather Be and I See Houses sound more like Ashcrofts solo stuff rather than The Verve which ain't no bad thing. Overall a great return from possibly the greatest british band of the 90's
I have heard 2 songs off this album Love is Noise and Judas all i can say is WOW and i hope the rest of the album is as good absolutely amazing high standard and i agree with the previous review this looks set to blow Coldplay's latest album out the water !
The Verve are back. Seen them twice. Once at the O2 and just seen them at V festival. Ashcroft had me in tears.
Got goosebumps writing this now.
Actually thought I was moving during Love is Noise
its been eleven long years since urban hymns became the soundtrack of the summer of 97 and after the verve's split in '99 no one would think they would ever reform.now there back with forth and i can't wait to hear it,the stunning comeback single 'love is noise' is a dead cert for number one and the hypnotic 'sit and wonder' should please fans of their earlier psychedelic sound.move over coldplay, keane etc the best british band ever are back!
If you're a big Verve fan then am sure you'll like it, as has been mentioned in a previous review it sounds different from there other albums.
Highlights on the album for me are "Love Is Noise", "Rather Be", "Valium Skies" & "Sit & Wonder".
