This was an album I was looking forward to, after seeing them play live on Jools Holland I thought this was going to be good. But I was surprised, most songs sound the same, and the main vocal seems way to loud that you cant hear the music, which is a shame as thats the best bit. Boring long songs mostly, with the odd one or two good upbeat songs.

Customer rating: 3 out of 5 stars Slightly below their lofty standards

I really wanted to give ths three and a half stars. It's certainly better than most bands' current output but doesn't stack up so well against Wilco's earlier work: not as 'leftfield' as A Ghost Is Born, not as soul-baring as Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, and not as country as AM or Being There. As an amalgam of these other albums' styles, it fails to be the sum of its parts.
That said, it's still a thoroughly enjoyable listen, especially the opening four tracks. Any newcomers to Jeff Tweedy's work should, however, start elsewhere.

If like me, your favourite Wilco albums are Summerteeth and Being There, this is the one you've been waiting for, buy this with confidence.
For me the last couple of albums were good but still tempted to skip some tracks, I never did that with Summerteeth and not with this one either, even straight out the box. lovely guitars, excellent production and those bitter sweet lyrics from JT. A cracking album you feel you'll be listening to a lot and never get tired of it. Just fantastic.
