When this album came out in 1988 it was seen as a poor follow-up to the world dominating Joshua Tree album from 1987 (Rattle and Hum was mainly written and recorded whilst U2 were on the Joshua Tree tour).
Personally I think there a few gems on here - ignoring the various live tracks recorded on the Joshua Tree tour (which are mainly cover versions and earlier U2 album tracks), the studio tracks make up an impressive set.
Tracks such as Angel Of Harlem, Desire, Hawkmoon 269, All I Want Is You, Love Rescue Me and Heartland are all worthy U2 tracks up there with the quality of the Joshua Tree.
Definitely worth a listen.
