Well, Lily Allen is officially back after her 3 year absence from the music studio. And what a comeback.
The first single released from the album "The Fear" is an ironic message about how today's deluded "celebrities" have become famous for nothing and how they have no sense of reality. Other tracks that have strong messages include "Everybody's At It" and "Fuck You" (the latter being a dig at George W Bush and the BNP)
One track that stood out for me was "22", a song directed towards Amy Winehouse. The chorus "It's sad but it's true how society says her life is already over" is sung from the heart, and shows that rather than finding Winehouse's state amusing, we should show sympathy for her struggle.
We hear about Lily's lovelife; in "I Could Say", "It's Not Fair" and "Never Gonna Happen" we hear a stronger, more independant side of her which contrast with "Littlest Things" from her debut album. These songs have comical spins on them, for example the lyrics "There's just one thing that's getting in the way,
When we go up to bed you're just no good, it's such a shame." However, "Who'd've Known" still shows the smitten loved-up Lily that we know and love.
So to conclude, this could not have been a better comeback album. It's apparent that she's worked extremely hard to fine-tune every track and it really pays off.
Congratulations Lily, welcome back.
