I found this very creepy when I first saw it as a teenager. It's a fifty-minute television play and stars Ian Cuthbertson (doing a dodgy American accent) as the sinister runic parchment-passing 'Abbot of Lufford', Julian Karswell. The story is updated from Edwardian to contemporary times, the protagonist being a TV journalist whose 'curse' is found embedded in video tape. It's cheap and a little sedate by modern standards, but also atmospheric and very watchable.

The dvd includes an excellent hour-long documentary on the original author of the story, M.R. James.
