On stage she was a singing legend. But for Edith Piaf, life was the greatest performance of all...
The extraordinary life of Edith Piaf; from the mean streets of the Belleville district of Paris to the dazzling limelight of New York's most famous concert halls, Piaf's life was a constant battle to sing and survive, to live and to love...
A swirling, impressionistic portrait of an artist who regretted nothing, writer/director Olivier Dahan's La Vie En Rose stars Marion Cotillard in a blazing performance as the legendary French icon.

This film tells the story of Edith Piaf from cradle to grave. It is a very sad film as there seems to be nothing but pain and loss for Piaf despite her success and ability. The story is not told totally in sequence and I personally found this a little irritating at times whilst watching the film. However, overall this is worth putting up with as the scenes involving Piaf are exceptional and really carry the film. The Oscar she received for this was well deserved.

Not the greatest film bio[why was so much of her life glossed over or missed altogether?] no mention of Yves Montand OR Charles Asnouvour who she both helped in their careers and became lovers to both. The saving grace is the performance of Marion Cotillard who IS Edith Piaf and for once Hollywood got it right at the Oscars she almost makes you believe its her who's singing not edith.
On second thoughts it IS a great movie if flawed.
Difficult to watch

No wonder Marion Cotillard won an Oscar for her role as Edith Piaf in this typical Oscar-film. She really IS good as the singer grooving up on the streets of Paris just to become a big star.
But the problem with La Vie En Rose is the non-stop misery and humiliation. It is extremely difficult to watch; as an audience you don't get time to swallow the first misery before the next one appears.
Maybe the film is 'A magnificent masterpiece', but it is difficult and tough to watch. Your feelings get hurt SO much that it is almost impossible to enjoy.
