Bought this hard drive to use as a wireless time capsule for my MacBook Pro and to store media files on to act as a media server for my PS3 - both features that this drve is capable of. But not easily. After a laborious setup process, everything worked fine for a few days, but then stopped working as a media server. Seagate support was terrible, but I eventually fixed the problem - only to have it reappear everytime the power is switched off.
The Time Capsule support is atrocious and fails after a few (extremely slow) backups, resulting in the drive needing to be reformatted.
Avoid this product completely.
Great idea, can have wireless connection, remote access via web etc but badly implemented unreliable software.
What they don't say is that you can only connect via browser, the drive does not show up as an external NAS drive when you plug it in and you can not use the normal operating system tools to examine files or format the drive etc. If used on a MAC you can not reformat to MAC format but have to use windows compatible formats. If you set it up to back up with time machine, all goes well for a while then it stops, backups fail and you can not access the previous backup files, not much use as a fail safe for recovery.
If you have a look at the Seagate forums you will find a lot of people have had similar problems and they have yet to be resolved.
