 Wireless Set Up Guide

| | See all Chevtel's reviews (1)

Just bought one of these and I must say for the price it is good value. It does come with the 3 colour and 1 black toner cartridge already installed. The only cable you need initially is an ethernet cable. From reading other reviews on the net, there are a lot of people that have given this printer a low star rating as they claim it is difficult to set the wireless connection up. Yes, I admit the instructions are a bit basic, but I found the most difficult task was adjusting the paper tray to A4 paper size. The following should guide you through the wireless set up and make it simpler.
The printers come with the I.P address already set up to a default value.
Once you have mastered the paper tray and loaded the paper, plug the printer in and press the Stop button for 5 seconds. This prints out the wireless settings, make a note of the I.P address.
Next, you need to connect the printer to your existing router using an ethernet cable. Don't use the cable supplied as this is a crossover cable. Plug your ethernet cable from the printer to your router and leave it for about 1 minute. The printer will assign a new I.P address. To check it has, press the Stop button again for 5 seconds and let it print out another wireless settings page.
Now compare the I.p address from the first sheet to the second, you should see that the I.P address has now changed.
Good, now enter the new I.P address into your explorer address bar on your PC. This will bring up the SyncThru printer set up page. Go to the Network settings tab at the top and select wireless on the left menu tab. At the bottom of the page is a wireless set up wizard. You can select either wizard or custom, Select wizard and it will ask you to put in your wep encryption key that you used to create your secure wireless network initially.
Now that the wireless connection is set up you can disconnect the ethernet cable from the router. All my computers in the house access the printer by wireless. You can connect each computer to the printer by ethernet cable if you wish but I don't see the point. You now need to install the supplied software on CD on every computer that you are going to use to print on.
Once inserted it will auto run, you need to select add a network printer and follow the instructions.
Thats it, simple, and it works well.
The printer is always powered on, there is no on/off button, it will go into sleep mode after a short while and this can be set up in the SyncThru web page. Mine is currently set to 15 mins.
Shop around for replacement toner cartridges they vary from 34.00 to 46.00
