These used to have the TY03 dye and were excellent, they now use Ricoh F1 which is much less compatible and less stable. I buy the Verbatim 16x DVD-R 100pk, which use a Mitsubishi dye (MCC), now and the Verbs are far superior (and cheaper).
I've been using these for 2-3 years with not a single bad disc out of the 500+ I've bought. The 1st discs burned are still working fine and work in all the drives I've tried them in. I'm using a lacie d2 firewire drive to burn them and running mac os 10.3-4. No compatability problems for me. However the -R versions of these discs don't seem to work with my burner.
I have used 100's of these Maxell discs (both the '+' and '-' vaieties) and have never had a dud one. Well apart from the time my PC decided to shut itself off in the middle of writing, but that's hardly the discs fault!! That one became a nice shiny coaster for my beer. Meaning that it was recycled and therefore environmentally friendly too. So, good value, reliable and nice to trees. What more could you ask for in a blank DVD disc!!!
Just be careful that you buy the correct format disc. I have a laptop which I bought in 2001 that has a DVD-Rom drive. As this is a read-only drive I didn't think it would matter if the discs were '-R' or '+R' once they had been written/burnt, they would just be read-only and therefore DVD-Rom. Nothing with my laptop said certain disc types wouldn't work so never thought anything of it. I burnt several '+R' discs worth of data which I intended to use on my laptop, but when I inserted them it didn't even recognise that a disc had been inserted so I couldn't use them. However '-R' discs work just fine on my laptop!!! So to cut a long and tedious story short my advice is to make sure you buy the correct discs or you will end up with a lot of shiny beer coasters!!
I burn anything up to 20 dvds a day in my profession and Maxell is by far the worst media I have ever used. We have 100pks which are unusable due to the severe markings on the media and those which appear to burn correctly nearly always fail upon verification. I stick to Sony though Im sure there are even better options but the DVD -R Sony 50pks although more expensive gives me peace of mind over this junk.
these disc are great recording from VCR toDVD.
reliable good performance and reception.
I had only one dud in 50.
very pleased with this product
