Verbatim Double Layer Discs provide a massive 8.5GB (2.6 for 8cm products) storage capacity. The double layer of recording has been made possible by the creation of a new substrate layer that sits in between each recording layer, that allows the laser beam to record on both layers. Once the first layer has been recorded, the laser re-focused to record on the second layer.

I can definitely recommend these discs. I have been using these discs for a few years now and have never had any problems. As another reviewer has mentioned, the only problems I have ever had were down to my own mistakes or experimentation with different burning applications and settings.

To anyone who has had problems with these discs, you will probably find that you need to either update your firmware on your burner, depending on what you are burning, maybe you will need to use a different burning application, for burning iso type images you will probably be best using either imgburn or clonecd. If you are burning individual files and folders, nero or roxio are probably the most reliable.

The most important mistake I find people make which can cause a bad burn or failure is the burn speed they use. I never ever burn at the maximum burn speed, I only burn at a maximum of 4x if the disc speed is capable of 8x or greater, but I prefer to burn at 2.4x on dual layer discs as I find it is more compatible with readers, especially those on consoles.

I hope anyone reading this review finds this information helpful.

 Worth the extra cash!!

I have used DVD R DL discs on a few occasions and have found that cheaper brand discs will give you a complete set of coasters for your coffee table. Verbatim discs on the other hand produce flawless results every time (no coasters so far from these discs), these discs will also last longer and are more durable against scratches etc... than other brands.

So other brands may be half the price, but only half the discs will actually work (when using DL)

 verbs r highest quality

I would recommend verbatim disks to all new buyers.
You can usually save a pound or two by going with another brand of disk but i can more or less guarantee you will not get a single coaster/bad disk. Me and my brother have been using dvd-r for about two years and dvd+r double layer for about a year. We have never had a coaster that has not been from user error. I have tried cheaper TDK/ Maxell disks and the quality doesn't compare. You will not be disappointed. BUY BUY BUY!!!!!!!

Have been using these for a long long time, very cheap on this site compared to elsewhere. Have used over 100 discs and the only coasters i have had out of them is when its been something i forgot to do when burning. Never had a disc fail and would recommend Verbatim to anyone!

 Great for backups

I have bought a hundred plus of these and only had a few bad burns.

If you are using these for console backups then only burn at 2.4x max, although it says 8x don't do it, this has guaranteed me 100% perfect burns since doing it this way.
