Well done play.com
This is an amazing cooler from Cooler Master and was relativly simple to fit. The instructions that come with it are a bit brief, but it's not too hard to figure out what they mean. Don't be put off by the fact that you might have to take the motherboard out to fit the back plate, 'cos if you have an amazing case like the haf 922 then there really is no need to 'cos there is a hole in the chassis (great design by cooler master again. It's just a shame that play doesn't stock another one of the fans that comes with this cooler.
PS. The picture is a bit misleading as the one you get doesn't have lights in the fan (you could use different fans if you are bothered). I'm not worried though as it is only 15 quid. Bargain!
My stock AMD fan&sink on a 4850e ran at upwards of 90C when video encoding, and often shutdown mysteriously overnight when left to crunch away.
Fitted this and now I can't get the temp above 44C, no matter what I throw at it...and no random shutdowns either.
It *IS* large, though, so check case dimensions. Mine fits in a Coolermaster Elite case with about 1mm to spare, but works a treat and is far quieter than the stock AMD fan. Basically, I can't hear it over the PSU fan.
Usual excellent Play.com pricing and service too. Buy and be happy!
Nicely done Play.com
With the stock Intel fan my Pentium D930 ran 45+C idle and 70+C load. With this cooler it's 30C and 40C respectively. Great cooler for the money, although used Arctic Cooling MX-2 thermal compound :).
Order from Play for the bargain price of 16 quid delivered as everywhere else was 20+ with delivery.
Its lowered idle temps on my core i7 2600 from low 40's to 28c and when running prime95 it never gets above 46c whereas the stock intel cooler was struggling to keep temps below 80c!
I agree with the other reviewers who have said to use Artic Silver 5 as its so much better than the supplied thermal paste.
Only downside was that delivery took 9 days which was poor although to be fair to Play it was the Royal Mail where the delay was as it was posted by Play the morning after purchasing.
Installed coretemp and cpu(x2core) running at 60-70oC whilst just web browsing! with a asaka(blown down) type cooler, but upon insalling this badboy they went down to 40-45oC!!!! massive difference so oc fun commin soon :) .Small note tho this is BIG!! i had to completely remove my mb (lian li case) as i had to install a back plate but all done in under an hour so not worth dropping a star, if this does bother you id suggest checking your case/mb type beforehand, Enjoy :).
