5 Shockingly good value, really nice little unit.FleetDave | 14/12/2010 | See all FleetDave's reviews (2)Top 10 Clothing Reviewer These have just arrived and Im actually shocked by what you get for your money!I was expecting these to be of a fairly poor quality and cheap materials... and I was okay with that. I didnt pay a lot for them and I just wanted a cheap set of speakers for my desk at the office to play Christmas tunes in-between phone calls and being able to watch things on YouTube at lunchtime and that kind of thing.Anyway, unpacking the box the first thing you notice is the size, the package is really small but then you notice the weight... quite heavy for something which is supposed to be cheap?Getting everything out... the sub unit is tiny really slim and very neat, much smaller than I expected and it's built entirely of quite a heavy weight ABS plastic so its going to be able to take a few kicks under the desk and still look good as new. Also I like that power socket is really small (sometimes you get the ones with big boxes attached to the plug which makes it difficult to get into multi-sockets etc... this one is fine). There is a little dial to adjust the bass and one socket to plug the speakers into, thats as complicated as it gets. The speakers again are very small, ideal for my desk. However these are made of a much lighter and glossy black plastic and are much prettier than the sub. Picking them up and giving them a squeeze the joins are all solid, no movement or squeaking at the seams etc, feels like a quality finish and they are quite pretty! You also get the little round unit which controls the volume and has easy to access ports for headphones and a microphone so I don't have to scrabble around under the desk to plug headphones in anymore, absolute result! This is also very sturdy, the top is the same glossy black plastic as the speakers and the base of the unit, like the back of the speakers, is harder wearing.Sound quality is good, there is no distortion or hissing and the vocals come across very clearly. Volume wise its surprisingly loud for such a small unit... the bass has a bit of a kick to it, not quite the lung tingling you get from other more expensive and bigger units, but this is cheap and tiny and plenty good enough! But the best thing about the volume is that its completely adjustable... the last set of speakers I bought had an annoying digital volume thing like a TV where you choose the volume to be 6,7 or 8 etc... but the problem was that the difference between 0 and 1 was too big so its either on mute or too loud to just be in the background. With these you just swivel the top of the little volume unit and you can have any volume you want. For a neat little unit it is quite loud, but expect some distortion if you have the volume set near the max mark but in my office that wouldnt be appropriate anyway so no bother.Durability I cant comment on, theyve only just got here. However, Ive poked and prodded and squeezed and pulled everything and Im pleased to say that the build quality is solid and the quality of the materials seems high too. You can usually get a feel for something cheap thats fragile and likely to break over time... these are not!Overall Im really happy, my little office is filled with Christmas cheer and I didnt have to empty my wallet as a result . This isnt going to be the most incredible sound experience around but its certainly very good quality and will stand up to every day use.Well done Logitech and thank you play.com team :-)Play.com team... please can you unblock basic punctuation characters in reviews?
