Toshiba / PX1640M-1HL0 / StorE Alu2 2TB 3.5 inch External USB Hard Drive

I have only just received this product so cannot comment too much on reliability as of yet. Although Toshiba is usually quite good for this.

My first comment has to be about how the item came delivered to me. From opening the package, the box was extremely squashed and in a terrible state (and I mean terrible). It had looked as someone had already opened the item, thrown it about a a bit then thrown it back into the box. I ordered a replacement to only realise that the second was in a similar state. Considering the nature of the product the item is packaged extremely poorly with all the contents loose in the box. I understand that it is some attempt to be eco friendly but surely it shouldnt comprise keeping the product safe. I think Toshiba should address this issue and maybe PLAY.COM should look more carefully at how they store and transport this product.

However if you ignore this issue the Toshiba harddrive is a solid looking drive with a handy switch on the back and dim led light on the front. It is surprisingly compact and considerably quiet for such a large drive (a lot quieter than my Hitachi drives). The case is very smart looking aluminium with a white front.

Please note the item comes with a EU plug and UK adapter which makes it some hideously and impractical large plug.

I would of liked to give this product 5 stars but cannot due to its v poor packaging. It is also very good for its price, cheap but smart & solid looking drive.

I hope it does not disappoint in terms of reliability. Overall I would recommended this hard-drive.
