Difficult to Set Up. Impossible to use with Time Machine

I bought this in order to backup my Mac Os X 10.6.8 and act as a media server for my music library. Both of these things are key features of the drive according to WD but it turns out that it does neither very well.
Setting it up in the first place took much longer than expected and required detailed reading of user forums, enabling of ssh, and editing of code in terminal. Trying to set it up as a backup drive for Time Machine wasted even more time and in the end I have no faith in the integrity of the backup files so what's the point.
If you still aren't unconvinced check out the community forums on the Western Digital page and you'll get an idea of just how many problems you're likely to run into setting up this brick-to-be.
