Just to clean up some confusion... well probably not actually., (will probably confuse you more) a Gigabyte is what computers read and start from kilobytes etc. All storage is measured in Gidibytes. the difference being, one gigabytes in 1024megabytes a Gidibyte is 1000 mb.. and so on. Hence the size will always be smaller when read by a computer add the amount of space need for the masterboot record etc and you don't get any where near what you expect in Gigabytes... but none of the companies explain this so most people don't know the difference.. Wikipedia it if your interested.
Just received this item *finally* after the first package arrived with nothing inside. Good size for the money 29.9gb free FAT32 on Windows7 after a quick format. Unfortunately the speed is terrible, managing about 4.2 MB per second, which is actually a 1 MB slower than I can download files from the Internet. I have a number of Play.com 4gb memory sticks and even an 8gb and speeds have always been acceptable, this one however isn't. It is obviously made on a shoe string budget to give the huge size for your money. The lack of a key loop just adds to the frustration of the device. Would recommend a better branded product at this size, or one of the 16gb with readyboast enabled.
for the price its not to bad, 14mb/s read but only 4.2mb/s write I have other sticks which are far faster, but then again far dearer, I see from other reviews people are reporting different read and write speeds, although it does state up to 23mb/s read 8mb/s write, so I suppose its just your luck if you get a faster one,
This penstick is a great price for a 32GB stick and is definitely faster than the old smaller drive that it is replacing.
Only used it for a few days so far. When transferring a single large zip file, it took longer than I had expected (giving about 3.5MB per second) which is significantly less than I had expected).
The size of the device is great (not too big and not too small).
One annoyance I have is that there is no drive indicator light on this device. One review I had read stated that it had - so either this is a faulty device or the device has changed since that review was written.
So basically: Slower than expected; no indicator light; cheap for such a high capacity drive.
