Introducing Thunderbolt. The fastest, most versatile I/O ever in a notebook.

Imagine accessing multiple streams of uncompressed HD video - from your notebook - at speeds that let you edit an HD feature film in real time. That's how Thunderbolt technology will connect the next generation of high-performance peripherals to the next generation of computers - starting with MacBook Pro. Ultra-fast and ultra-flexible, the Thunderbolt pipeline is more than 12 times faster than FireWire 800 and up to 20 times faster than USB 2.0, and it offers unprecedented expansion capabilities. It changes what you can do on a notebook.

The Thunderbolt port will give you plug-and-play performance with a whole new world of Thunderbolt peripherals, as well as with the Apple LED Cinema Display and other Mini DisplayPort peripherals. You can daisy-chain up to six devices, including your display. And with support for video and eight-channel audio, it's easy to connect HDMI-compatible devices - like your TV and home stereo - using the HDMI adapter you already have. Current VGA, DVI and DisplayPort adapters are also supported.

The new FaceTime HD camera. The difference is clear.

Get more of your friends in the picture with crisp, widescreen HD video. The new FaceTime HD camera gives you three times the resolution of the previous camera - perfect for the brilliant LED-backlit display - along with improved low-light performance. You and your friends can make 720p HD calls from one new MacBook Pro to another. You can also make video calls to other Intel-based Mac computers,4 iPhone 4 or the new iPod touch.

Multi-Touch trackpad. Be more hands-on.

The Multi-Touch trackpad is the most natural way to interact with what's on your screen, and the smooth glass surface gives you plenty of room for gestures. Pinch to zoom in and out, swipe to flip through photos, rotate to adjust an image and much more. The buttonless design lets you click anywhere. And if you're coming from a right-click world, you can right-click with two fingers or configure a right-click area on the trackpad. The more you use the Multi-Touch trackpad, the more you'll wonder how you ever did without it.

Previously, I owned a high end laptop running 64 bit Windows 7. Now it's fair to say that Windows 7 is a very good operating system. It sorted a lot of the problems Vista had and it was a very pleasant experience.

But there was something lacking and I couldn't help but notice my friend's 2010 Macbook Pro. So I went and researched into it more...

In July 2011, I purchased a 15" Macbook Pro and it's nothing short of an incredible piece of hardware. I concur when people say that it is very expensive and some may say it is overpriced, but the experience I am having on this laptop trounces any past experience I've had with other laptops.

Everything is quick, hardly any lock ups and the start-up time is brilliant. Visually it looks fantastic and the laptop itself looks very sleek and very smart. The backlit keyboard is a great addition and comes in very handy when you are in the dark.

The battery life comes in at a very respectable 7 hours. For comparison, my last laptop could only last 4 hours and it usually turned out to be around 3 hours at the end of the day. I find that I get the full 7 hours when I am simply doing internet browsing, watching some youtube clips here and there and at half brightness.

Coming from Windows, it was at first quite hard for me to grasp how to quit programs fully and to copy and paste, but you find out soon enough that you can do everything on a Mac, the only difference is, is that it does it slightly different.

The biggest surprise for me though was the speakers. The quality is just incredible. I've never encountered laptop speakers that produced such a fantastic sound and on high volume! Usually, as you got the higher the sound would crackle, but on my Macbook Pro this is non-existent; it's truly magnificent.

I currently am using the new Lion operating system and it borrows a lot of features and gestures from iOS which many may realise is the operating system used on the iPod, iPhone & iPad. It's a great experience and the multi-touch gestures are so enjoyable to use. This operating system is just so simple to use and to navigate that the transition for a Windows user of 10+ years to a Mac wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.

I wouldn't recommend this laptop for gaming though. That's not to say that you shouldn't game on the laptop, because it is capable of doing so, but there isn't a massive offering and I haven't found it as smooth as I did back on Windows. Nevertheless, Steam offers its own Mac section .

In closing, I'm so elated that I made the jump from PC to Mac. Windows 7 is a great operating system, but I am enjoying using my Macbook Pro so much more. It's simple to use, it's lightning fast and it's so great at the end of the day. The laptop has a sturdy, smooth build which you would expect from an aluminium body and I love how quick hibernation is.

It's expensive, but it's a purchase that will no doubt last you a long time since Apple show a lot of support for their laptops.
