Sweex Yarvik TAB250 7 inch 4GB Android 2.3 Multi Touchscreen Tablet

I've only had the tablet a day but I thought I'd give my first impressions. I'm very much an iPhone/Mac user but given that right now I don't have the money for an iPad I thought I'd give this budget tab a go. My first impressions are that it's a nice device for the money. The screen responsiveness is really good and the load time is excellent. Websites such as YouTube work really well. Having not used Android before I'm pleasantly surprised by the interface and the user friendly nature of the device.

However, I'm a little disappointed with the GetJar app store. Given that this is the only 'official' way to add apps it's quite disappointing that only half of the apps I tried actually downloaded and/or worked. Yarvik actually say in their FAQ's that they're aware of the issues and that they're trying to resolve them. There are other ways of adding apps but it isn't particularly easy. Given that this device really is all about the strength of the apps, this may put some people off.

In summary if you're looking for an operating system as bullet proof as iOS, this isn't for you. If you're prepared for a small amount of messing around then this tablet will provide you with a handy little device for the money. I'm hoping GetJar manages to sort out the issues with the app store. If anything it's actually made me realise that I really should save for the iPad. However, I'd still recommend this for people looking for a budget tablet, I suspect this is probably one of the better ones at this price level.

I bought this tablet having never owned one before and have been pleasantly surprised. I've used it mostly for web browsing along with some music and movies and it has worked great. It lacks flash support which can be an issue on some sites but I've not found it a big problem. One great feature is the mini hdmi socket on the device. It allows you to mirror the screen output to a hdmi TV with only one inexpensive cable (I got one for 2.50) in up to 720p resolution. I've used it several times to watch movies on my TV with no problem. The touch screen is good but can sometimes be a little lacking in sensitivity but overall I can't really complain. The Get jar app store is not great but as long as you're willing to install from apk files, with the included installer, then most apps can be installed. Overall I rate this as a great bargin for the price.
