I dont normally write reviews but I bought this based on the 5* customer reviews on this site after considering many budget tablets. After seeing someone give it 1* I thought I had better redress the balance.
For the money this tablet is amazing........ its no iPad2 though and it must have taken me 2 weeks of fiddling around to get it how I wanted, it is a little frustrating to start with and comes very much barebones out of the box, but once I have downloaded the apps I want, replaced the stock internet browser etc it really is very good.
If an iPad costs 399 quid, I would say if you take away the apple name and kudos its probably 250 quids worth or kit whereas this is 140 quids worth. In other words the ipad is better but by 110 and not 259! In fact you could buy 3 of these for the same amount.
The 10.1 capacitive touch screen is very responsive and I would say it is about as good as any I have used. The bad review above obviously got a faulty unit. I would say that when it originally arrived it had a kind of slightly sticky sheen to the screen which once worn-off or buffed-off it started to work very well........ another reason why you need to give it some time, and like other reviewers have said you will grow to really like it.
A couple of things you need to consider when deciding to buy this tablet, which I didnt realise at the time:
- it doesnt support flash player (but it does html 5 so some video content works)
- BBC iplayer wont work because of the above
- Youtube does work though
You need to change the browser to Dolphin HD as the stock browser is clunky.
Another thing to note is it doesnt support the official android market but Getjar does a reasonable job and you can download other .apk files (the executable file type used by android tablets) from other sources if you know where to look.
Other have said that getjar is restricted (and its not as good as the official android market) but hidden in there is a real gem..... the getjar 'gold' apps.... these are FREE apps that you have to pay for anywhere else and I have downloaded loads of apps for free that would have cost me money via android market.
So to conclude, this is a very worthwhile tablet with a good quality screen (touch and actual visual quality) for the money. It plays loads of different codecs and the battery is good for a decent 6-8 hours in use or 3 or so days on standby .You're not getting an iPad or a Galaxy tab but for this you would pay 3 times as much.
