AverMedia Game Capture HD C281 (PS3/XB360/Wii)

we tried a hauppage but had to send it back due to lines on screen, missing drivers ect ..... so took a gamble with this unit. the best feature is how simple it is to use and it does not need a pc to be connected while your recording. however a decent sized USB stick or external drive is required (there is an option for an internal HD laptop HD) but this means no faffing about with a pc while your playing a game, just press record on the unit or remote ..... its that easy! a slight down side is the file format is AVi, however for around 20 we bought sony vegas 11 HD and this enables editing, conversion and posting to YouTube easilly. there are links on their web site for free versions etc.
on the whole a great unit, great quality at 1080i but you will need to buy a decent sized USB stick or drive, dont listen the the hauppage fan boys, this is a decent alternative!

The AVerMedia game capture HD records at a maximum definition of 1080i which is very good but what makes this device stand out from the crowd and makes it a good competitor for the Hauppauge HD PVR is that it records footage without it being connected to a PC and instead can record to an internal hard drive that you can install or it can record to an external USB hard drive or even just something as small as USB flash drive, the only downfall of this device is that their is no option to attach the device to a PC so there is no possibility for live streaming with this device. Overall this is a great bit of kit for anyone looking to record their game footage and it is very small and lightweight so it is portable and would be good to use to record LAN parties. 4/5 due to the lack of connect to PC option but otherwise a great device.

After toiling for hours trying to install and use an EasyCap card that my housemate got on eBay, this came as a breath of fresh air when I was able to set it up in five minutes.

This device lets you select a lower bitrate to help extend the amount of video you are able to record onto your device, and it still looks great in lower quality.

The instant playback system on it is fantastic, giving you the opportunity to watch and delete your video if necessary after watching it.

I had difficulty writing directly onto a memory stick as you can't write data onto one of these as quickly as the video is created. However, after installing an internal hard drive, I haven't had any problems.

The only other issue I encountered was that the recorded video appeared a little distorted at times, showing diagonal lines on the screen. However, I think this was due to me trying to watch the high definition video on an non-HD monitor. I was able to convert the video to standard definition with a free program, sorted that out.

This box comes in so handy as you can just set it up and leave it attached to your xbox/ps3 without having to hook a pc or laptop up to it every time you want to capture something. You just hit the power button, then hit record......job done.

I spent a total of 200 pound on the capture card and a HDD but it definitely paid off. A must-have product if you want an easy-to-use capture card.

I bought this for my self it was this and the hd pvr happuage or something like that. i was questioning but this is the best thing for recording gameplay. includes everthing you need the hd cables for the console the wires to the ps3 everything. no laptop or pc needed all you need to have is a usb or an external or internal hard drive never looked back

After my Hauppauge HD PVR broke for no reason I decided to purchase an alternative and I was not dissapointed. The AverMedia Game Capture HD does everything you want. It can take screenshots, record gameplay in High Definition. Extremely easy set-up. Remote control that came with it makes everything more pleasant. Saves the files in .avi format so it can be edited in almost every editing software. I use a 16GB USB to save the files and that suits me very well. Overall, very simple to use and does the job you want to a very good standard.
