Online gaming or video streaming problematic poor support

After finally getting my office back which became a temporary nursery I needed to find a solid network solution for the house. Ranging from a server to Xbox I have something in the range of 20plus devices using my internet connection. But most importantly I needed something solid for my office for streaming 1080p and 3D content around the house. The smart TVs in the house utilise DLNA and Nero media home essentials.

I purchased the twin pack TL-PA511 Powerline adapters from TP-Link after carrying out some initial research (I wanted the 500mbps option). The internet connection comes into the house downstairs straight into modem to router and an out to the closest Powerline. Upstairs office pairs with the downstairs device. Everything was ok and I was impressed with the speed as there was no drop at all. I then purchased a third plug for a bedroom where the DLNA scenario comes into play.

The Powerlines go into eco mode after 30 minutes so if you are streaming content then stream is interrupted. After various testing scenarios I got in touch with TP-Link technical support who are located in ASIA. The replies are incredibly slow and fairly ignorant of the facts that are given to them in replies. They suggested I upgraded the firmware which I did however it still did not solve the problem. They then asked me to upgrade the firmware with a new cfg file which would prevent the 30 minute timed outage but it still did not resolve the problem. All drivers for media server are up to date.

The problem has worsened in that the PC connected in the office now times out sporadically and can only be resolved by opening the network and sharing centre (windows 7 64 bit) and then clicking diagnose on the adapter setting which then repairs the connection to the bridge. I have tried a laptop same results. I have plugged directly downstairs and same result. Whilst there may be a software issues somewhere which is conflicting, the utter lack of support should be something to consider when purchasing product from TP-Link.

TP-link simply fail to respond to my mails now, whether that is down to them knowing there is a problem with their product or simply they cannot be bothered to assist their customer with a problem in essence created by their product.

If you want these plugs for straight forward networking and simplistic multi-tasking, then they are a must. Anything else! then consider alternatives.
