Western Digital Scorpio WD2500BEVS / 250GB/ 2.5 inch Internal SATA 150 Hard Drive (Sony Playstation PS3 Compatible)

I bought this hard drive for my PS3, installation was easy, and it only took a few minutes to backup all the data from the original harddrive. For me 250 GB is great because it means I can put all my music on, all my videos and download as many game demos as I need, with room to spare. Perfect for turning the PS3 into a proper media player. So far I cannot tell any difference in load speeds over the original harddrive, but I have only used half the memory so far. I reccomend

As with the other reviews I purchased this drive for my PS3, although I did buy it elsewhere and a while ago.

It's a brilliant drive, WD are to be commended, I have a WD passport drive (40GB) and that has worked superbly since day one.

The WD drives are only slightly louder than the Samsung Spinpoint drives, which as they are industry leading is no mean feat.

Like the other review said, swapping the PS3 hdd is a breeze, just remember to backup your important stuff (game saves) etc. If you have an external USB hdd formatted in FAT32, you can use the PS3s built in backup utility.

Swap the drives (mind those screws and get the correct size screwdriver) then restore from your backup, easy-peasy.

I'll only replace this drive when WD produce a 500GB unit for under £100.

I bought this because I wanted to upgrade my 60GB Playstation 3 HDD to this 250GB for more room for downloadable content such as games from the Playstation Network, as well as space for upcoming games with large installation files like Metal Gear Solid 4.

Anyway, was really easy to removed the old one and put this new one in. Within five minutes I was already restoring the data from my 60 to this 250, and within ten minutes I was playing my PS3 again.

My only dissapointment was the actual memory read in the PS3.
Natrually no storage space is exactly what it says on the box.
When in the PS3 its actually 230GBs, and then with other data stored on it (PS3 startup files or whatever) it was actuall 205GBs.

Its no big deal but, 20-25GBs have gone missing...and in terms of files, that's quite a bit..

But anyway, its only a minor negative, I still have 200GBs of storage to use on games!

I'm more than pleased!

What a great drive,it's quiet,fast and very easy to fit.
Enough said already about ease of fitting.
Filled my 40gb with updates and patches very quickly and am now ready for 9gb siren download with 170gb to spare.
Loads of room for music,video and games.
Upgrade now and take the rains of the ps3, you won't regret it!

Received this today for my ps3, it's truly fantastic. I lack knowledge of technology and even I managed to figure out how to change the hard drives as its so simple, simple slide the old one out and put the new one in its place, turn the ps3 back on and it automatically formats it for you all in about 5 seconds then restarts and you're ready to go! No problems. Fantastic product. Highly recommended to ALL ps3 users!
