I can't give it 5 stars as I haven't used many other headsets but i've had this over a year and have not had any problems. The only minor issues is the lead is not hugely long maybe 2meters which isn't quite long enough to listen to movies while far away.

  Excellent pair of headphones

I was a bit sceptical of these when I first saw them and was recommended them but I'm not glad I did purchase them in the end. They are a significant improvement over my old Sennheiser HD201's! Works fine on Windows 7 (without the software installed)

I bought these for Skype, listening to music to avoid disturbing the house-mate and also the odd gaming session- turns our they're far better at the gaming and music than Skype! How and why? Because the design firmly shuts out extra noises from your environment, it does mean your voice seems stupid whilst talking on Skype (or when talking when gaming).

Sound quality is great - I've actually taken to listening to music on these instead of my speakers (which aren't exactly great anyhow). Possibly a bit bass-y at times but that could be the MP3's more than my music.

Microphone works well with Dragon Naturally Speaking, Skype and Mumble (not tested on anything else). Quality is good - no complaints about audio from anyone I've spoken to.

As to regards the USB nature of having to restart programs, I found this not to be the case IF you made a few changes - after plugging in, goto the Sound section in Control Panel - you then see a list of attached devices - if you set the headphones and mic to default device, the PC will automatically switch from speakers to headphones as soon as you plug in and unplug.

Overall, an excellent product and one that I hope to be using for a good while yet.

  Ugh

I bought this to replace my broken headset, when i installed it/plugged it in it only worked with skype, which was a HUGE disappointment. I messed around with a couple of settings to barely to get it working on Ventrilo, but then i had constant static, couldnt listen to music/msn which was very frustrating with changing settings around to try and make it work, but it failed. I read up on the heatset and it doesnt seem to like Windows 7, so i wouldnt recomend getting this if you have W7. I am very disappointed as I can hardly return it as no matter how careful you are the only way to get the headset out the package is to open like a wild animal T.T So now I am going to have to go out and buy another headset. - Not a happy bunny.

  Quality - Whilst they work!

I've had this Headset for around 8 months now. I've loved them for all that time aswell, brilliant sound quality especially when watching Movies etc. And the Mic works perfect. But for some reason I am having problems with them now. Theres no physical signs of wear or tear on my headset and they have been looked after but all of a sudden the Mic is constantly cutting out and distortion when the wire moves... It's a bit strange! Maybe time for a new set.

Nice price but it's got the same USB "blip" as other mics...

...as in, you plug it in, you set it up, everything's great, but then when you swap between the headset and the speakers once too often, then it will fail on you right when you need it most and it'll need setting up all over again. To be fair, all USB mics can fall over like this, not just Microsoft's. At least with the 3.5mm jack models you only have to worry about whether they're muted.

There are some Sennheiser models which are 3.5mm jacks but have a USB converter bundled in the box so you can choose, so my next headset will be one of those, or I'll go back to Plantronics.

  Disappointing

The sound quality is decent via the headphones however there is too much bass.
The microphone on the headset sent to me was faulty and did not work at all.

  Windows 7/Vista compatible.

Very comfortable, excellent sound quality for the price range. Despite previous comments I've seen these headsets are 100% Win 7 & Vista compatible.

Amazing sound - Windows 7 Compatible

Just got these through today and i am very pleased with them. I'm using them for gaming and the microphone for teamspeak.

Microphone - According to other people, the microphone is very quiet compared to my previous but can be easily fixed with a bit of tweeking in the windows settings. Also the quality isn't as good but for the price is better than others. 4 stars.

Sound - Quality is 5 star. Nothing bad to be said about it.

Comfort - The cups fit nicely around my ears, after an hour or so my ears got a little hot, 4 hours in and i could barely feel them. 5 stars.

Compatibility - Contrary to what a previous review said, these are infact Windows 7 combatible. So don't let that put you off! 5 stars.

Overall, for the price this is a fantastic headset and i would highly recommend you buy it if you're on a budget.
