This was bought tp replace an ageing IBM laptop. It rivals the Apple Macs in looks I have to say. Vista is o.k. As usual there are no recovery disks in the box, You have to make a set after downloading any updates that are required for the preloaded software, Although Sony could not have made it easier to do this. Boot up the machine connect to the internet and the Sony software does it all for you, Gets the downloads and then you just make the disks.
This is a very fast machine, With the 2gb of ram it just flys through multi tasking jobs. Tha graphics card is fine for playing games, Call of duty was no problem at medium settings so other games should be fine also.
The blue ray player is a nice addition I have been unable to test it yet as I am waiting on some films to arrive. The only slight quibble is the lack of an spidf port to allow you to connect to an older amp for 5.1 surround sound while watching your fancy hi-def films. I am presuming that Sony are expecting anyone to output the sound & vision through the HDMI port. So all in very happy with it wireless connection to internet was great and the X-Black screen is the best in the business for clarity. So would have gave it 5 stars if the spidif port was there. My vote 4.5 out of 5.

Top Spec Laptop for half the price!

I've been looking for a laptop for over a year. It took me so long because I wanted top spec, but did not want to pay top spec prices of almost £2k. I looked at the Macbook Pro and the Sony Vaio AR.... then I found this one.

You get a lot for your money! Core 2 Duo T7500, 200GB hard drive, Blu-Ray combo drive and the HDMI port. You can hook this up to your flat screen TV, buy a wireless keyboard and mouse and check your emails from the comfort of your sofa or stream video to your TV etc. I watched a Blu-ray DVD and was amazed at the quality on the laptop screen. I think it looks better than my TV!

My only gripe is the sound from the speakers is poor when watching a Blu-ray DVD. This is easily rectified by using headphones or buying some external speakers. Seems fine for anything else e.g You Tube and music. Blu-ray sounded great through headphones.

When you register your laptop you will get a Spiderman 3 Blu-ray DVD sent to you free.

I am very pleased with my purchase.

  Sexy machine, no real complaints

| | See all Sethenvir's reviews (2)

Well lets see....

Its slim and very light and has just about every slot/port your likely to need built in. It has media control buttons, something you only tend to see with actual keyboards, add to this the sexy, shiny colour scheme and its a very pretty machine.

Its stats? Well their listed above and for the price again - very nice. It does seem to be performing as well as you'd expect with those stats as well NOW except....

Gripe one - Sony makes some sexy machines but they sure seem to know how to load them up with junk. If your not a beginner when it comes to computers and you like your machines a set way get your format/OS disc to hand and be prepaired to start off with a complete reinstall.

Gripe two - the touchpad. Touchpads are often a bit iffy but this one seems a bit more so than usual. I plan to be getting a proper gaming mouse for this soon personally so its not a BIG issue but the pad is extremely unresponsive at times and far TOO responsive at others. You'll be forcing the pointer to move one minute then the smallest brush will accidentally click off whatever your doing and very possibly in some cases open multiple instances of an application another minute. I can't remember if my old Time laptop was like this at the start but maybe it'll balance out with age...

Over all this is a VERY nice machine still - one I can see myself using for years to come.
