Western Digital Scorpio WD3200BEVT 320GB 2.5 inch Internal SATA Hard Drive (Sony Playstation PS3 Compatible)

Thank you play.com for sending me this excellent HDD. I do have a few points to make about installation which may help others. The removal of the HDD was very easy by simply using a Philips Ph1 screwdriver. The screws were very easy to remove with no force required whatsoever. I did have a few problems putting the new HDD in as the first 3 screws went in very easy but the alighment for the 4th was very slightly off making it difficult. I would strongly suggest that before tightening screws you make sure all 4 fit into place by just using your hands and make sure you don't overtighten. Also should you round the screws don't panic because Sony send a new HDD cradle free of charge. Once my HDD was in place the rest was very easy because after formatting my PS3 was up and running. The reason for this is the operating system is stored in the memory and not your HDD. All you need to do before replacing HDD is back up your game saves or anything else you want to keep and probably wise to download the operating system i.e latest firmware update from the sony website. The last thing I will say is where on earth does 60GB go lol.

I bought this as 60GB just isn't enough for a PS3 after installing all the game files and have enough media files also.

I was amazed by how easy it was to install:

1) Get an external hard drive, and go to the PS3 menu and go to system settings then backup all data. (i removed all my media items to make it a more simple process, in all 23GB was backed up)

This will backup your download content, game saves and game installation data.

2) Sync your trophies with all your users

3) Turn off PS3, including mains and take out all cables.

4) Take off the cover on the side of the PS3 which holds the HDD.
undo blue screw, Ping out the metal tab, slide it to the right and remove the PS3 HDD.

5) Unscrew the casing and slide it out, and remove it with your new HDD, screw it back up, pop it back in, slide it to the left (all the way) screw in the blue screw and pop the cover back on.

6) Plug in all cables, turn on the PS3 and it will ask to format the PS3 (this actually took less than 5 seconds to format)

7) Your all done, so all you need to do is restore your system, which you do by going to the menu where you backed up your data, but go to restore. This process took 45min to do, so i sat back and watched abit of The Jeremy Kyle Show.

And your done! everything is backed up, minus the system files ect... you have about 250GB left of storage!!!

This is the best, cheapest, fastest, 320GB HDD for the PS3. I've upgraded my 60GB HDD to this fantastic 320GB.

If you have a 40GB PS3 and put in this hard disk drive it WILL NOT allow you to play PS1 and PS2 games. 60GB PS3's have a special chip in them which enables backwards compatibility. By upgrading the hard drive you cannot add backwards compatibility, you will just have a bigger hard drive. There is no way to add backwards compatibility to your PS3 if it doesn't already have it. Hope this helps.

At the time of writing, this is the largest capacity hard drive available that fits the PS3. An Excellent upgrade: quiet, fast and gives masses of storage! Will be useful for when PlayTV comes out!

I installed one of these in my MacBook Pro to more than double the HD space! Its very quiet and overall has no real difference in heat or battery use than the drive that came with it!
If you need an upgrade on your MBP, get one! (just be careful you know what your doing on the upgrade!)
