I've had a white 4gb one for a couple of month's now and I love it for it's practicality. It loads up in 15 seconds, and after typing in the WEP number for internet connection (you get used to it) this takes another 15 seconds.
Great for keeping handy for quick email's etc. Or any other thing's if time is short. Lot's of software like internet radio, world clock, word processing, web cam etc etc.
I bought it for general internet job's. I have another computer for downloading major stuff.
I'm using it now this minute..can't get off the thing.

CallmeM gave it 1 star, but it sounds more like he either got a bad one or had no idea how to set it up properly. Me and 3 other people I know own one, as well as the countless people on the Internet who have given this total praise and approval. None of us have had problems with the system.

The size is perfect, just big enough for the keyboard to be fully functional and competent, the touchpad is good, but it's always better to use a mouse, which can be bought for £5. Windows XP runs perfectly on it, even some older games will run, I managed to run Neverwinter Nights quite well, and a friend even had Doom 3 going, granted it at snails pace though.

Perfect system and exactly what most laptops should be, lightweight, ultra portable, perfect for general home computing and most importantly; cheap as chips.

I bought one of these (not from Play.com) as a gift for the wife. Simple basic small and compact. Upon opening and turning on i was instantly presented with a dead pixel (no big deal). The internet was a pain to connect to as i kept getting a pending notification. To resolve this i had to plug in into my router with an rj45 cable, After this it would connect.
As the week went on i kept getting phone calls from the good lady complaing that this and that wasn't working. So for people thinking of purchasing this item this is the list of faults i had within a week of buying and then returning to buy a normal laptop.
Dead Pixel
No internet Connection
Unresponsive Keys
Freezing
Mouse pad not working
Sound not working
Battery life is pathetic
Avoid at all costs.
Although i gave it a bad write up it is a clever piece of kit, they just need to iron out the problems.
I would imagine the xp version works much better?

i recieved my asus eeepc yesterday, i had done research on it but i wasnt sure wat to expect. I was dissapointed wen it wouldnt connect to the wirless internet which is a common problem (search asus eeepc pending problem for more info) but after playing around with my router i was on the web. from that point on i realised just how amazing a machine it is for only 200pounds. its absolutely tiny and could be taken anywhere, and the dictionary and other software is really helpful. The webcam is really good quality and takes good photos. I WOULD DEFINATLY RECOMEND THIS PC!!!

What a fantastic piece of work, I've upped mine to 1gb of ram and installed full XP with bluetooth. I now use it more than my sony which was £2000.00!!! Fantastic value and you don't have to worry about dropping it (mine went down the stairs and it was not affected in the slightest) Looking forward to one with the atom processor.

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars excellent easy to use with 3 network usb modem 3G connection

I was not sure whether it will work with my 3G usb modem on 3 network. I read on the internet forums that it works but I was sceptical. So I borrowed my friends EEE pc and connected my usb modem, I then went to networks and followed menus to creat a 3G dialup connection and hey presto it works. In fact I am writing this review on the same machine using the same connection and it is faster than my old thinkpad. Wow!!! I can now go ahead and place my order for this excellent kit. If you need a portable, reliable and easy to use notebook then this must be it. Welldone Asus !!!

Most reviews of this kit have been stunned by the price - it is simply amazing at this price (especially good from Play.com). There is very little that the Eee cannot do - except HD video editing or RAW photo processing. You can easily add extra DDR RAM, increase FLASH storage (SDHC cards), and add Bluetooth. Although the screen is small, it will output via VGA to a significantly higher resolution. But what convinced me in the end is that this is Linux - tons of free apps, and it can be hacked to your heart's content - both in terms of hardware and software - some folk have managed XP and even Vista (why would anyone want Vista?) and one nerd has even installed OS X Tiger on it.
Go for it!

Top 100 PC Reviewer

Asus really have made an incredible performing machine in such a small package. It's light but sturdy, and well made. Everything on the Linux operating system is instantly intuitive, familiar and simple without any prior knowledge. Very quick start-up. Built-in WPA wireless setup took under a minute and works perfectly(on netgear DG834g setup). Mozilla browser works very quickly (certainly quicker than my XP desktop PC). Laptop runs very quietly, and you certainly get the advertised battery life even in full use. Screen is better than I expected, as is the sound. No plug-in usb storage issues, webcam good, skype + email all fine. Office software is great. The keyboard and touchpad obviously are smallish, but fine to use even for a big bloke like me - it's really such a great size overall, you could forgive it being much less impressive than it is. You could take this anywhere with ease. Even the charger is just like a mobile phone one, and has a very long lead with a velco retaining strap- everything well thought out. The photo above doesn't do the black model much justice - it looks much nicer quality in the flesh.
One of the best electronic devices I have ever bought.

.ps. you also get a nice neopropene type of snug fitting carry case, so no need to buy one.

Kudos to Play.com for best price and very quick delivery. Under 2 weeks even when out of stock. (others were 6-8 weeks and more expensive).

Wow, I have read the reviews but I did not expect the Asus Eec PC to be as user friendly as it is. I get most use from the Eec PC on the internet and never having used Firefox before I am very happy to say it is a very easy web browser to use. Not having a DVD or CD drive in not a problem, with the SD card reader and the three USB ports provided. I would recommend this Ultra portable notebook to anyone .
