Customer rating: 4 out of 5 stars good budget card - careful of lockups though

was apprehensive about using it on my single core machine (that's my next upgrade!) but games much better and can run COD4 demo fine whereas on my 7300LE it could barely reach 5fps. I got a ZOTAC unit. Sometimes XP locks up however and I have to reboot and I get a "windows has experienced a serious error " even though I have latest grfx drivers and 400W PSU. There's no PCI-E 6 pin auxiliary power connector for this card. Maybe I need to go to 450/500W PSU for stability - any ideas?

the problem is simple your pc is overheating :P

the chasis is too small and gfx cards produce mass heat

try leaving case side open hold fan to it and run and see if it shuts down, its either over heating or a driver issue

good luck!

Bought this card last week and i must say that for under 50 quid you definately wont find much better than this. Runs Crysis, Bioshock and Race Driver Grid with no real issues apart from when you play crysis and things get a bit hairy it tends to struggle a little. I dont think utilising DDR2 Ram does the 1GB any justice but like I said for 50quid you are definately getting some seriously good equipment.

before i had this i had a 7300GT OC and as soon as i got it i noticed the better performance immediately on all my games e.g S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Rainbow Six Vegas, Bioshock and COD 4 i was able to put the graphics on full with no problems anf FPS of 40 and for its price it's the best on the market, but word of warning you do need a minimum power supply of 400w i had a 300w and had to upgrade but besides this best card i have ever owned.

I bought one of these babies and was looking forward to the new improved performance. The PC is a barebones kit from Novatech. I Can't say that i have noticed a difference in a good way. However, my computer now shuts down without reason during games, reinstalation of xp, etc. I have all the latest drivers and i am running the following system: AMD 64 3800+, Winfast6159K8MD motherboard from Foxconn, 650w psu(upgrade), Bliss 1GB 8600gt+(upgrade), Realtek intergrated HD sound, Emprex 16x DVD RW, 2x Western Digital 20GB 7200rpm HD, 1xExcelstor 30GB. 2GB PNY 3200 400DDR ram also Installed at the same time as bliss upgrade. . I removed the 512mb my system came with thinking there were compatability issues between memory slots, this made no difference. The Bliss card was purchased at the same time. I can't remove the card to test, because of its large size it covers the lever on the MB which enables its removal? The sound and graffix stutters/jitters when the processor is working. I am at the end of my rope, and on the verge of binning the lot. if any one has any idea's it would be greatly appreciated and theraputic.

First of all the manufacturer that your card is made by will vary. Although the specification states you get two DVI ports you may get one DVI and a VGA port. DVI ports are the new monitor ports which have a white connector and VGA have a blue connector. Don't panic if you have a VGA monitor and you get a graphics card with 2 DVI slots it WILL have an adaptor guaranteed.

I have seen some questions people have asked that are answered in the specification of this product (provided you understand the spec). Some people have asked if they can use a PCI 1 port or any other variation of this. The answer is NO this bus type is PCI Express x16 and will only work in a port of this bus type. Secondly people have asked if they can run two of these cards together. Of course you can for a start it clearly states its SLI ready which means you can run dual graphics cards providing you have two PCIE x 16 ports and a bridge to join the two graphics cards.

Now for my experience with this card and others. I bought an 8800 GT which is PCIE 2.0 which are supposed to be backwards compatible with PCIE x16 the above graphics card is PCIE x 16 so don't worry!! You have a 95% chance your PCIE 2.0 card will work on your older PCIE x 16 motherboard (I was just unlucky with my Asus P5VD2-VM motherboard.). I was so gutted that my £130 8800GT didn't work on my pc and I had to get a refund. If you are thinking of buying an 8800GT it pays to google your motherboard and check for incompatibility issues (remember the chances it wont work are slim but it's better to be safe than sorry). So instead I went for this card and I do not regret it. As mentioned before be prepared to put your graphics on high on games such as Call of Duty 4 with an FPS of about 35 which in my opinion is excellent.

So all you need is a PCIE x 16 port on your motherboard which you can check by going into the NVIDIA control panel on your computer by right clicking your desktop, once there click help and it should say PCI Express x16 somewhere on the page.. A power supply upgrade is recommended for those of you with a PSU below 350W. If not don't bother you will be fine I promise. The size of this card is very small compared to the other 8 series cards (well mine was small anyway).

I hope this helps!!

i received the gainward 8600 apart from its huge size which takes up 2 slots one for a vent

ive tested it on Half life 2 , team fortress 2 , savage 2 , mass effect , metal gear solid 2 and it runs fine

its cheap and is great for the price but will not run games like crysis and if you do plan on building a gaming machine then this card isn't for you but if your not building a gaming machine this card is great.

If you are new at buying graphics cards then THIS ISNT ONE FOR YOU!! It crashs all the time (even with the lastest driver download). So if you were like me and new to this, this isnt the one for you and go for something smaller. The fan is HUGE and kicks so much heat that it over heats which is not good. I would stay away from this.

Brought one of these to replace my old 6800 gt. Unfortunately having run several games with this card the performance is no better than my 6800 gt! I am running Command and Conquor Tiberium Wars on High detail with both cards. Anything above that and they both slow down! Mind you for the money I now have HDMI out so I cant give lower marks for that reason!
