This has been the 1st web cam I have owned so have nothing to compare it to. I'm running Win 7 and wanted to use it for Skype. Dead easy to set-up - just plugged it in and Win 7 did all the installing and when I opened Skype it worked straight away.
BUT there are problems with it.
Firstly, it has 3 bright LED lights either side of the camera. I guess these are to help illuminate my face if the room is too dimly lit. The room I'm in is dimly lit - I'm mainly on the PC in the evenings and we have an uplighter with a 40w bulb, so the light is not bright. My monitor sits on my desk, with the tower on the floor. The cable on the web cam is too short to reach up tp the top of my monitor - and actually I have a DELL 17" monitor and the web cam clip can't actually fit on it. I do have a shelf unit on my desk too, so I clipped the web cam onto that. It appears to be suiatble to "sit" on my monitor riser, but in practise it keeps falling over because the stiff cable wants to twist a different way. So, there it was, clipped on to my shelf unit looking up at me, and the 6 LED lights are on. And thats how they stay - ALL the time - whether I'm using Skype or not, even whether I'm using the PC or not. After 1 day I'd had enough of the lights shining in my eyes, so its now laid facing the wall behind my monitor, and the lights are still on!
Secondly, the image it created n the screen, the 1 time I did use it, wasn't that good - not good in comparison to the images of the 2 ppl I spoke to on Skype, and just generally - not a very clear detailed image. Quite grainy and not sharp. I did twiddle the ring around the camera, which turns quarter turn left and right, but couldn't see any difference.
